To cut my own hair?

DH lost his job due to covid so moneys massively tight. I feel like a haircut is a luxury so going to cut my (medium-long) hair myself. Dh thinks I’m crazy!
Does anyone cut their own hair? Any tips? X

i do my own using the ponytail method, watch some youtube videos and if you have medium to long hair it's not too difficult.

I go to a local college for hairdressing students, only ever had one disaster ... fortunately just before lockdown so no one noticed Grin. But I only ever tie my hair back and am not at all bothered how it looks.

I bought a pair of good hairdressing scissors and watch youtube and did mine. I dye my own hair, so gave my hair a cut.

I did mine in lockdown. Honestly, it didn't go as planned. I did the unicorn haircut and ended up looking like a mid 80s Jon Bon Jovi. I then had to cut it at the back to lose some of the mullet. Now it's grown out a bit and looks better. My hair is curly and I suppose I can get away with it looking a bit messy because it usually does anyway.

I've had the joy of shelling out £50 for a shit haircut before now, so at least when I buggered it up, it was free 🤷‍♀️

I did once go to a training student for a cheap cut, but she was wearing a load of rings and cut my forehead as she was washing my hair - she felt awful about it but after blood was drawn I realised it wasn’t the cut I wanted even though it was cheap Grin

I think Ken Dodd cut his own hair and it didn't seem to cause him any harm.

His own dental work a bit more questionable. Hmm

I used clippers for the side in lockdown, but was rubbish at co-ordinating scissors in the mirror.
Hair dresser is back now - going forward I might use the clippers between cuts and alternate between him cutting it all over, and me tidying up the short side.
