WIBU to leave my drive empty?

DotTheCaddy · 26/08/2020 15:48

A friend is driving down to visit me and street parking is a nightmare on my road, so today when a space freed up outside I moved my car off my drive into it so drive would be free for her to park.

Neighbor who has no drive has gotten ratty about it and called out to me that I shouldn't be parking on the road when I have an empty drive.

WIBU?

When parking is tough the trying to reserve a space is a bit mean really.

ignore her

Saffzy · 26/08/2020 15:53

Ignore her, it’s not like it’s going to be for a long period of time and your drive isn’t being used.

DidSheReallySayThat20 · 26/08/2020 15:55

I do this our road is awful at times.
I park outside to leave dh the drive otherwise when he gets in he has to park about 4 streets away.
No ones complained. Equally I'm not. Bothered if people park outside my house at all, like others would often moan.

Boom45 · 26/08/2020 15:56

If you had a drive and never used it I'd say she had a bit of a point - but its completely fine to park on any public road you like really and there are all sorts of reasons why you might not want to/be able to use your drive. On this occasion, leaving it empty because another car is on it's way to use it, is a normal thing to do and your neighbour can get bent.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 26/08/2020 15:56

Annoying as you may be to your neighbour, you have done nothing wrong.

You might be waiting for a delivery or a skip might be being put on the drive.

Frankly the road parking is as available to you as her.

YANBU

Your neighbour sounds a nightmare

wishingitwasfriday · 26/08/2020 16:01

Could your friend have parked over the dropped curb of your drive? Then you wouldn't be taking up any extra space.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/08/2020 16:05

@FadedRed - I love that spell - thank you!

I do this when people visit. It's not my responsibility or problem that some of my neighbours have several cars and no off street parking. I pay road tax and can park my car on the street all the time if I choose.

ZoeTurtle · 26/08/2020 16:07

It should be first-come-first-served unless your friend has mobility problems.

MiriamMargo · 26/08/2020 16:07

Public highway, park were you like, as long as taxed and insured

TinySleepThief · 26/08/2020 16:08

You have just as much right to park on the road as your neighbour does. They had no idea why you'd moved your car. If it bothers them that much then they can move their car when your friend has left.

tangycalligrapher · 26/08/2020 16:09

Careful @Clymene, the MN Pedantry brigade will be along soon now you've said that Grin

Rosebel · 26/08/2020 16:12

Surely your neighbor can't park there anyway if it's your drive. This doesn't make any sense. Although yes you can park there if you want. It's your neighbours tough luck.

This is illegal - dropped curbs also provide wheelchair/pushchair access.

BreconBeBuggered · 26/08/2020 16:20

Jeez, if I did that with my NDN so that my elderly ILs could park right outside my house, I'd never be out of their place. However irritating it might be, it's not my fucking road. It's not your neighbour's road either.

I'd have politely told her to go fuck a goat.

You are allowed to park across your own dropped kerb.

And while they are incredibly convenient for wheelchair users, and DW gives a little prayer when they have shaved a few hundred metres off a journey, it's fair to note they aren't actually provided for wheelchairs. Certainly if DW came across one that was blocked she wouldn't curse the car. Unlike the selfish cunts that do park across the proper dropped kerbs provided for safe crossings.

p.s. - I love that spell. I've copied it and hope that will mean I never need to cast it Grin ...

Glitteryone · 26/08/2020 16:25

You got the space first.

Tell your neighbour to fuck off.

endofthelinefinally · 26/08/2020 16:27

Where I live, if I parked over my own dropped kerb I would get a ticket. No traffic warden is going to bother knocking on my door or checking with the DVLA to see if I own the car.

DotTheCaddy · 26/08/2020 16:33

Drive is shared so cant park across it unfortunately
