To ask how do you accept life as it is with its uncertainty and bad things?

How do you keep a positive, optimistic attitude and "keep going" in life even though there is so much uncertainty and it can change in an instant? It seems like no matter what there is always something to worry about.

Health is the main thing I worry about. Seeing stories in the news about young people suffering from horrible illnesses makes me feel so anxious and upset.

In recent years the idea of acceptance (ie accepting what is and making the best of it) has become really important to me. I also focus on just enjoying my daily life rather than always looking to the future.

I have found these books really helpful:

The Big Little Things by Henry Fraser
The Power of Acceptance by Annemarie Postma
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Have you looked into the PERMA model by Martin Seligman? Lots of excellent stuff on YouTube!

I think the pandemic has made a LOT of people aware of their mortality, and the daily reminder of death was very jarring for a society who don't generally talk about it. A lot of people have struggled with this, along with health anxiety, during the pandemic so don't ever feel alone. It's good to take proactive steps to taking care of yourself and hopefully we can all move forward and embrace a little more positivity :) (I'm in my twenties as well!)

I try to remember the advice I give to my oldest DD (9).

Remember - nothing lasts forever, not good things and not bad things. So if things are bad, it won't last forever.

And if things are good, try to remember that this also won't last forever but remember that good times were there and will be again.

Uncertainty doesn't seem to bother me. Actually, uncertainty is a license not to worry. I tend to prepare for the worst & be happy because the worst almost never happens.

I only get very upset about deliberate violence, especially to children. Unfair illnesses (like bone cancer in kids): this is awful, but it doesn't hurt to know it happens.

I keep reading that the recipe for accepting unfairness in life is... purpose. Find your own purpose and this will keep your morale up.
