Reasonable amount for 16yr old starting college?

Dd has just left school and will be going to a separate college soon. She used to get about £7 ish a week cash to take to school on an account for bits then took a drink and lunch with her.
But I'm assuming college has alot more food options plus it's right in a city centre so she can eat at loads of places which could get pricy! How much is reasonable each week do you think?

How many days will she be at college? I'd probably give her a fiver a day if you can afford it.

Although I might start expecting her to budget her own money at this age so give her a monthly allowance for everything; travel, lunches, spends etc. And help her manage her own budget.

I’m also wondering this. I don’t yet have a timetable so not sure how many days he will be in yet. He used to quite happily take lunch to school but I think he will probably want something at college this time. Maybe fiver a day?

Following as wondering the same!

I think he'll be in college 3 days a week whilst restrictions are in place so I was thinking £5 a day? He can always take some snacks in his bag. He always favoured sandwiches when in secondary but I'm thinking the lure of the eateries nearby might make that less appealing!! He's hoping to get a job too so that can chip in a little towards the more expensive meals

Once DS turned 16 we paid his child benefit directly to him. He also gets £10 a week allowance and we still pay for his phone and gym membership, as well as him having access to our family Deezer / Amazon accounts etc. He works a couple shifts a week in our local pub so does have extra cash available.

The change in him has been astounding. Admittedly he's just had to purchase a number of text books for 6th form which he wouldn't need to do every month, but every purchase is considered now and often dismissed as being too frivolous or able to wait until next month. The angst when he realised how expensive M&S boxers were was a sight to behold Grin

I think it will be 3 days a week in college so a fiver isn't too bad i suppose! She gets about £10 - 15 pocket money too and a good phone and all clothes etc paid for too. She is trying to get a job but no luck so far.

A few years back we gave DD1 £50 per month 'college money' and £25 per month 'allowance'.
College money was for lunches and other incidentals, we paid the bus pass. College money continued over the holidays.
We continued to pay for clothes etc at her request, rather than a bigger allowance where she had to pay.
