He’s 2.5 and like has ASD. He’s got a severe speech delay and he’s not really been interested in talking much.

Over lockdown he’s started finishing the lines in his favourite book.

But today he’s started singing his favourite song and doing the actions!

I feel like crying.

My little magic baba.

Amazing!!!! I live for this moment with my non verbal 4 year old and stories like yours remind me never to give up!

You can’t bottle the feeling you get when they achieve something, eh!!

Ploughingthrough · 26/08/2020 03:48

That's great so pleased for you op. My DS does not have ASD or any developmental condition, but for some reasons took a very long time to talk and they were just starting to consider interventions when he decided to pipe up. I could have shouted from the rooftops so I understand how you are feeling!

Winningatseesaw · 26/08/2020 04:00

Lovely news Grin

Merryoldgoat · 26/08/2020 09:13

Oh gosh! What a beautiful set of messages to wake up to!!

My older boy has HFA but speech was his ‘thing’ and we had full sentences before 2.

I’ve felt so bad my little one can’t express himself as I can see the frustration but this morning he’s coming up to us singing the first line and doing the actions so we join in.

Magic day.

And I hope all of you waiting for those magic first words hear them one day.

I will say though that he’s such a happy little scrap regardless - he’s a much loved little boy whatever form his speech/development takes.

That's fab I'm so happy for you! My little one is 20m and speech delayed, shes just started saying no and it makes me so so happy. Even when shes saying no to putting her socks on or going to bed it just makes my heart sing because its an actual WORD!!

BeeFarseer · 26/08/2020 09:30

That is so lovely and it genuinely brought a smile to my face.

I remember the feeling exactly, I've been there with my eldest. He said his first words around 3 years old and was talking properly (with help from speech therapy) by the time he started school.

Please enjoy it and cry if you have to, it's such a special milestone moment.

VillanellesOrangeCoat · 26/08/2020 10:05

A reminder that many of us take so much for granted! How wonderful for you, @Merryoldgoat Grin Long may it continue x

How I love posts like yours OP.

YANBU at all.. enjoy listening to him chattering away. DS was a late talker too but now the problem is getting him to stop talking.

goose1964 · 26/08/2020 10:25

You must be made up, he's done better than my son who was 3 before he started talking.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 26/08/2020 10:26
