to wonder if people on Freecycle are selling the goods on?

I bought some Cloud 9 straighteners, so decided to put my Babyliss Ceramic straighteners (perfect condition) on the village freecycle page. I live in quite a well off village and our Freecycle has some lovely things. I was messaged within 5 minutes and the person was so pleased the straighteners were free. 5 minutes she messaged again asking if i had the original box and instructions. They're straighteners. the side switch has 3 settings and you plug it in. why would you need instructions?

She's collecting them tomorrow and I just wondered if I'm a miserable suspicious bitch? AIBU and she just wants the box to store them in?

Ultimately, they are my property and I should be the one to say what happens to them when they leave my possession.”

Wondering why you give anything away.

Sorry Merryoldgoat, copied you in by mistake.

tornadoalley · 26/08/2020 22:43

Well yes I can say what happens to them. If I can’t choose what happens (as in I don’t want them sold on) then I don’t give them.

Anyway after the cheeky pisstake of asking me to deliver them, I’m blocking her and she doesn’t get them.

Op I've used fc for the so many years.
I've got incredible stuff from it.
I've given away, nice stuff.
Sometimes I've had to go straight to the tip with utter rubbish! Sometimes I've had really pushy unpleasant people take stuff without so much as a thank you.

It's just the nature of the beast!
It's wonderful though...

Merryoldgoat. Err..they are still the ops property until she physically hands them over to the person she has kindly agreed to give them to, she hasn’t signed an oath.
Op. I would just take them to a charity shop, some will take electrical items, at least you know they’re actually going to something worthy that way.
Yes. The sense of entitlement of some people is quite something.

Boom45 · 26/08/2020 23:52

If you want them to help people in need why not give them to a charity shop? I worked in a women's refuges for a number of years and we couldn't really accept direct donations from the public - mainly due to storage issues. But we bought things that the women needed from charity shops.
Freecycle isnt designed for "helping the needy" as others have said, although lots of people use it because they cant afford to buy the stuff they need. But charity shops really do a lot of good stuff both for the charities they support and the people that shop there.

Ah the delivery ones piss me off. No I’m not delivering you a three piece suite across London, if I had a truck to do that in I’d take it to the dump instead, it’s less petrol.
