To wonder where Gavin Williamsons resignation is?

They can't put all the blame on Sally Collier surely? The Guardian suggests the select committee were warned in advance but chose to take no action. That rests with Gavin Williamson imo.

Even Julia on Talk Radio gives Gav The Muppet a hard time. I love how she states Jenny H stated that the evidence for face masks in schools was not strong in the morning 😂

Who is making the decisions? Cummings?

@itsgettingweird

Does anyone ever wonder if Boris has been used by the party as well?

He strikes me as that friendly but naive kid in the posh big common room who is so desperate to be liked he doesn't realise that the 'friends' aren't putting him as front boy out of respect but to get what they want without the negative consequences.

When you hear descriptions of him from his Eton and Uni days you often hear 'popular misfit'.

The narrative fits.

This image is obviously self styled. As is the loyal to a fault. He clearly isn’t loyal as his ex wives and girlfriends will attest to.

He sold his soul to the Brexiteers to become PM. They prop him up and delivers brexit. He knows they have the numbers to turn on him. They have shown that they expect to be in the cabinet making sure brexit is delivered. The useless idiots are the price he pays for the top job.

He knows the moderates in the party won’t be disloyal but equally aren’t going to be keep him in power if the head bangers turn.

I think Sally Collier left because she couldn’t cope with all the political spin being imposed upon her.

@Peregrina

They were voted in to see through Brexit, not deal with pandemics.

They were voted in to govern the country, and that involves taking what comes along and dealing with it. But this lot don't do resignations - that is too old fashioned and honourable. They do lying and cheating, following the example set by their Prime Minister.

well said!

... and they are doing a great job and seeing through Brexit! Hmm

So for the record, I am not a Tory voter. But I think that the Head of Ofqual resigning is the best solution because they were the architects of the mess; not Williamson.

Ofqual's remit and responsibilities are established in law by the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 and the Education Act 2011. As a Non-ministerial department, Ofqual is accountable to Parliament, through the Education Select Committee.

So Ofqual "report" to the Education Select Committee - now go figure this - Williamson is not on the Education Select Committee.

In early August Ofqual sent a letter to the Education Select Committee (committees.parliament.uk/publications/2256/documents/21094/default/) that provided and overview of the expected results to be published later in August. If you read that letter, it presents a very rosy analysis of the situation, that bears little resemblance to the reality that students faced on results day.

So IMHO the resignation of the Head of Ofqual is the correct action and the Education Selection Committee should be revised to include the Minister for Education.

Williamson was entirely responsible for the announcement that students would be able to use a ‘valid mock result’ dragging the chaos out even longer than necessary as people tried to figure out wtf that meant before u-turning, and still causing problems now as students still think a mock is grounds for appeal.

He hadn’t flown that announcement past Ofqual (or any teachers) before making it, that was entirely clear from the pissed off tone of Ofqual’s official response to it.

Of course he isn’t - the Select Committee’s job is to hold the DfE (and it’s arms length bodies such as Ofqual) to account for its policies and work.

@ilovesooty

I suspect he's offered it and it's been refused.
I agree. Bojo is biding his time when the first school staff member dies or god forbid, pupil. Saying that though that will all be covered up with 'well where is the evidence they caught it at school?'

... ofqual being clear on where they believe the blame lies.

They need all
Schools to start back before they throw him under the bus / that way he gets blamed for everything up til then. I reckon another 2-3 weeks when some kids start getting sent home because of positive COVID test.
