To ask if this sounds like a UTI (and if it does what to do)

I have a constant, CONSTANT urge to pee. As soon as I get up from the loo I want to go again. Argh! Bit sensitive down there, although that could be from wiping, no pain although had period pain yesterday.

I don't usually get UTI so not sure if this sounds like it is?

NHS 111 said to wait it out for 3 days before seeing GP and see if it gets better, but is there anything I can do / take to help with the urgent feeling that I need to pee?! I can't achieve anything as I'm on the loo 95% of the time!

Sounds like cystitis. You can get over the counter remedies for this if you or a friend/family can get some for you.

theworldhasfallenoutmybottom · 25/08/2020 16:15

Drink loads

Autumnsun1985 · 25/08/2020 16:18

Nhs 111 are wrong.
Definitely could be uti. Can I ask why you called 111 over gp practice?
Regardless, you need to give urine sample to your surgery and ask for a culture.
No evidence that drinking cranberry, drinking lots of water etc makes any difference.

Bizzywater · 25/08/2020 16:19

Agree, UTI. Drink loads of water, I do a pint every time i have a pee and try to get a GP appointment. Mine have never cleared without antibiotics.

IAmMeThisIsI · 25/08/2020 16:23

It does sound like one but might be a bit higher up in your bladder as you're not getting stinging etc. Wait two days and go to the GP. I waited through NINE agonising days once because I read online it could take that long. The doctor's jaw hit the floor when I crawled up to his desk cold and clammy haha. And OTC medicines did nothing for me. Best to nip it in the bud OP. Could creep into the kidneys if you're not careful. And the longer you leave it, the more scar tissue forms and then you become more susceptible. I was so frightened after those nine days. I changed everything! Cotton underwear only, extremely cautious with hygiene and toilet stuff. It's just not worth ignoring it.

nanbread · 25/08/2020 16:23

I did the 111 service online and also looked at NHS advice online as was tricky to get hold of GP. I'll try them again and maybe pop down the pharmacy. I'm meant to be going on holiday later today!

nanbread · 25/08/2020 16:25

Interestingly I was wearing non cotton period pants when it started, all my usual underwear is cotton

Oh sounds like it might be! Cystocalm or similar is good. Doesn't taste great, but can stop it turning nasty. GP might want a sample to dip to see if there's an infection.

cheerfulpanda · 25/08/2020 16:29

Sounds just like cystitis or a UTI. I had the same feeling a few weeks ago.

You can get over the counter remedies from a pharmacy or cystitis relief sachets from most supermarkets. Rest, lots of water and fluids, and if it doesn’t improve in a day or two, call your GP and they’ll take cultures and offer antibiotics.

First sign of back pain, fever, or sickness, get straight to urgent care, or if you don’t have one, A&E. I ignored the feeling and mine spread to the kidneys which wasn’t fun!

adogisforlife91 · 25/08/2020 16:32

If you start to get what feels like back pain go to the GP straight away. I had what you have and tried to wait for it to go away and ended up with a raging kidney infection and two weeks off work. (not saying you definitely will but I had no idea it wasn't just back pain iyswim)

Pipandmum · 25/08/2020 16:34

When I had cystitis I thought I was going to die - never felt pain like it before or after. But pharmacies are good places for advice.

Pinkbunny2811 · 25/08/2020 16:35

Just ring your GP. They'll probs put you on antibiotics and sent a urine sample off. Defo sounds like a UTI.

I rung nhs111 last night about some right sided abdominal pain. They told me to keep taking the painkillers that are doing nothing for me... there was a study done to suggest doctors don't take women's pain as seriously as men's.

stoploss · 25/08/2020 16:35

The NHS 111 3 day GP appointment disposition is to ring the GP within 3 days, not to wait for 3 days to call them.

There isn't a 'wait 3 days' to call GP disposition.

Ring you GP now, tell the receptionist you have spoken to 111, tell them that your assessment has been sent over and you would like an appointment.

This is what the health adviser should have told you to do.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 25/08/2020 16:38

Where are you in the uk? In some places pharmacists can treat uncomplicated uti in females aged 16-65. "Pharmacy first" service.

nanbread · 25/08/2020 16:49

@Thecurtainsofdestiny thanks they have that in my area, do you know what they can give you? Assuming not antibiotics? I can't get hold of my pharmacist on the phone to ask.

I've spoken to GP surgery now and am awaiting a call back.

I had a kidney infection once about 20 years ago which got pretty bad before I had it treated and it was absolutely hideous, so I definitely want to avoid that!

nanbread · 25/08/2020 16:51

On the NHS website it says about UTIs: "see a GP if... your symptoms do not improve within a few days".

I know services are under pressure at the moment hence being keen to find other non GP solutions if I can.

I do have some back pain but pretty sure that's period related.

piscean10 · 25/08/2020 17:22

Do you have that burny stinging feeling when you pee? Sounds like a UTI and probably need a course of antibiotics

Moonsick · 25/08/2020 17:25

You can get an appointment (phone or video) with an online GP. Babylon is the one I used, but there were several others when I was looking, including one in my local pharmacy. Cost me about £25 as you have to pay for a months subscription to the service and then your medication as well. I used it to get antibiotics for a UTI.

Superdrug offer this service too: onlinedoctor.superdrug.com/cystitis-treatment.html

Good luck, its horrible and I hope it clears up quickly for you

IAmMeThisIsI · 25/08/2020 18:13

Ohh are you on your period as well OP?

nanbread · 25/08/2020 18:53

Yes on period.

It's not stinging when I pee, more like an ache that gets worse as I'm on the loo?

Managed to get MacroBid so fingers crossed it works!

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 25/08/2020 18:55

It might just be in Scotland but the pharmacists here can give you antibiotics for a uti now. I used to regularly get them and drinking water or cranberry made no difference, only an antibiotic would help.

I hope you feel better soon, the uncomfortable feeling of one is awful!

AnnaFour · 25/08/2020 19:06

Get onto Amazon and order ‘D-Mannose’. It’s magic stuff. I got it after experiencing a run of UTIs from hell which culminated into a kidney infection. Taken this stuff ever since if I get the faintest feel of one coming and never had another one.

It might only help a bit this time of the UTI has already taken hold but is well worth having for the future.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 25/08/2020 20:28

@nanbread yes in my area pharmacists can give antibiotics. Only for uti ( and impetigo) though.

Palavah · 25/08/2020 20:34

Drinkplenty of water/herbal tea
(not caffeine, alcohol or sugary drinks)
It won't cure you but it can help to alleviate the discomfort. Careful re cranberry juice as almost all is sweetened so is counterproductive.

Keep your vulva clean and cotton pants, not thongs. (no pants if you can get away with it in a long skirt or whatever).

TheTrollFairy · 25/08/2020 20:37

Sounds like cystitis.
When I had a UTI (the only one I had) I randomly couldn’t breath properly so your symptoms don’t match my experience of a UTI
