AIBU to ask how long an oven should last?

Wasn't all that sure where to put this question. Posting here for traffic I guess.

Anyway, could I ask how long you have had your oven/cooker for and how long you would reasonably expect a £200 cooker to last?

When we moved into our house in November 2018, so just a half and a half ago, we purchased a Bush fan oven from Argos for around about £200 so although it wasn't an expensive oven, it also wasn't the cheapest one available either. Now, just a year and a half down the line and it's broken. I think it's the element that's gone in it as it looks like it's on but won't heat up at all but that's besides the point - just a year and a half!? First world problems and all but I am really sickened by that especially as we can't afford to repair or replace it. It's out of warranty and although I've sent Argos a shitty message on Facebook asking for a refund I know I won't get one.

So, how long has everyone else had their oven for and tell me I'm not being unreasonable to be absolutely furious that ours has lasted just a year and a half. FWIW, it doesn't see heavy usage - the oven itself is only used approximately twice a week for maybe 20 minutes each time. Also, has anyone got one of those mini-ovens that sit on the counter and are they as good as a 'normal' oven because that's what I'm planning on getting to replace it.

I'd had mine about 10 years, replaced the element which went again within a year so I replaced the oven. Similarly I've found the element on my steam cleaners tend to go after 5 year, check it's not blocked.

Mine is 12 years old, no problems at all.* Zanussi, mid-range, can't remember exactly how much.

*Well, none that couldn't be solved by me cleaning it a bit more regularly...

The last cooker we had (Aga) lasted for 20 years and would have kept going if we hadn't changed it.

The Aga my grandmother had installed when she married in 1927 is still working just fine. About 30 years ago it was switched over to oil (rather than coal) fired, but still, no problems at all. I hope you sold your Aga on, rather than dumping it!

My washing machine, btw, came from my other grandparents, when they had to move into care. I've had it 12 years, and I think they must have had it at least 5 years, possibly more than that. I do think that appliances ought to last AT LEAST ten years, tbh.

@AlwaysLatte unfortunately it's definitely a one-year warranty :-(

@bridgetreilly in our private rented flat there was a washing machine that was at least 15 years old. I only know that because there was a testing sticker on it with a date on it.
