I was given a nice chest of pine drawers that I am going to use in a home office. It does have a bit of an orangey-pine hue though so I'm going to paint them with chalk paint. My daughter thinks navy blue, husband thinks grey and I'm leaning towards dark green (annie sloan amsterdam green). I know nothing about current trends in paint colours and don't really care that much but as I've made a nice job of the rest of the room (which I've just redecorated - very neutral) I'd quite like to be on trend for once in my life. So if anyone knows what colour chalk paints are "current" then please share your wisdom. Thank you!

I’ve got no idea of what is current or not but I’m a total Annie Sloan convert and I recently painted two large kitchen larder type cupboards in Oxford Navy, they look brilliant and I love them. I used the Matt Laquer over the top which deepens the colour and finishes it off beautifully.

Thanks @Judashascomeintosomemoney - I didn't even know about Matt Lacquer so for that reason alone I'm glad I started this post!

No idea what's current, but our kitchen is painted in a duck egg blue shade of it. I love it!

I'm about to paint a large dresser turquoise. No idea of trends though. Go with what you like. Do you want strong statement colour, or muted softer colour?

I do agree these paints have so many gorgeous colours.

Have a look at Frenchic’s paint range, which was originally intended for furniture but can be used for kitchen cupboards and many other surfaces, plus they do an outdoor paint range too. They have just won an award too for their fantastic paint (I use it).

The Frenchic Fan Forum on Facebook is great for ideas and you can use the search bar to look for specific items. You can then see how the various colours look on different types of furniture etc.

Thewhitefoxglove · 25/08/2020 08:47

I'm thinking a strong statement as rest of room is neutral. Both the duck egg blue and the turquoise sound great so I'm googling both now.

Our walls are cream and the furniture is painted duck egg blue 😊 we then covered the work surfaces in paper from Wilko so they look like white wood.

Thewhitefoxglove · 25/08/2020 08:52

Wow that sounds gorgeous @vanillandhoney

Thanks! Our kitchen is tiny and we're planning on extending soon so it was a cheap, quick fix to make it look a bit fresher while we save up!

Think it cost less than £50 for the paint and paper!

That's amazing that you can transform a room for so little! I am hoping to paint my whole chest of drawers with a sample pot Grin

It helps that DH does painting and stuff for a living so he knows what he's doing 😂

Love Annie Sloan chalk paint and have used it a few times - white, pink/ light purple and blue. Go with your favourite!! You can also use a wax top coat to seal it instead of lacquer which will give it a different finish too.

Word of warning, as brilliant as ASCP is, it thickens up super quickly once the lid is off and can be quite hard going to spread around (covers and adheres beautifully though). So I’m not sure you’ll get away with a sample pot (depends on the size of the drawers though I guess). I’ve done other stuff, old white wardrobes and drawers in DDs room, Paris grey kitchen cupboards, and Athenian black in other DDs room on drawers and a desk frame. I buy the tin for coverage and always buy a sample tin jic I ever need it for touch ups. I’ve also used their wax and black wax on different items to give different finishes. They’re not cheap but they are well worth the money imo.

I think any colour is fashionable - just go for the one you love!

Thanks for all the useful advice!

No idea what your room decor is like but that Amsterdam green is beautiful! Too my eyes looks very trendy vs ubiquitous navy & grey.

We’ve recently painted our orange pine table in black (blackjack Frenchic alfresco) with a sanded pine top. Absolutely adore it

TheClitterati · 27/08/2020 17:57

Painted the Dresser - Fusion Mineral Paint, Azure. It's a bit greener than I was thinking but still a vast improvement

Check out Frenchic paint too. It’s fantastic and I prefer it to Annie Sloan.
