If someone did something awful to you, would you want them shot dead during the incident or to serve life?

I've been watching too many crime programmes today and the goal of everyone seems to be to get them to serve jail time. I'd be more of the shoot the bastard variety I think.
Just wondering.
Not thinking about death penalty here.
Just, would you rather them killed in a cop shoot out or to go and serve life?
Say for e.g. for killing your child or something similar.

More than happy for them to die.

If they killed my child or hurt my child, I would want to kill them myself. I think that would be the only way I would have any satisfaction, but it wouldn't help me get over the grief.

I believe in the death penalty. It removes evil from society

So do proper jail sentences though; for me, the point we don't have them isn't a reason to bring back the death penalty, but to sort out sentencing, the Parole Board and more

Personally I'm against capital punishment in any circumstances, and desires for revenge may well be better served by more appropriate sentences during which offenders have the leisure to reflect on what they've done and what it's cost them

I'd just add that there's an important difference between revenge and retribution/justice. Better minds than mine have addressed this, but there's a pretty handy guide here: www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/evolution-the-self/201402/don-t-confuse-revenge-justice-five-key-differences

Serve life. I have had awful things happen to me and i still feel the same. I oppose the death penalty very strongly and death by cop is still a form of that.
