Posting for traffic sorryGrin

DP and I have a rare few days off together this week and normally we have so many things planned, but now it has come to it we can’t think of anything!

We live near Bristol and happy to travel up to around 60/80 miles. Happy with either paid or free. Ideally something that has inside options too in case the weather is awful

Cheddar Gorge? Bath? Both great days out.

PawPawNoodle · 24/08/2020 16:29

Westonbirt Arboretum is nice. Literally any of the nice little towns and villages in the area are worth a visit. You could have googled this and had the information you want much quicker.

Avelosa · 24/08/2020 16:35

@PolPotNoodle funnily enough I have googled it, but wanted recommendations from people who have actually been and done things

@Avelosa what do you think the reviews and suggestions on Google are made up of Confused

BrieAndChilli · 24/08/2020 16:42

We did the walk around the top of cheddar gorge a couple of weeks ago, couple of steep bits but lovely views.

Forest of Dean has lots of lovely walks. Sculpture trail at beechenhurst

Tintern

Walk around Cardiff bay

Sparklesocks · 24/08/2020 16:45

@PolPotNoodle oh come on, someone asking for recommendations isn’t exactly a ridiculous request. OP is just asking if anyone has done anything nice/fun in that area lately. No need for the snark.

Sorry OP I don’t know that area very well but I’ve heard lovely things about Bath.

Avelosa · 24/08/2020 16:56

@KatherineofTarragon @Sparklesocks considering I live so close I’ve never actually gone to Bath for a day out so that sounds like a good idea!

We used to live in Bristol and did Cheddar Gorge as a day trip, a bit steep up the hill but once you're up it's glorious. Went to The Epicurian for lunch after which was excellent.

Are you outdoorsy walking people or more potter around town people? Trying to think of other trips we did.

Westonbirt is lovely and Tetbury is just up the road, lots of little cafes and antique shops to look at.

Avelosa · 24/08/2020 17:03

@larrythelizard both really, we’ve got a dog so more than happy to bring him if we go walking somewhere suitable (there would also be people at home if we left him home just in case the dog abuse police also come alongGrin)

I am not very good at indoor stuff but off the top of my head

  • Exmoor and a walk is doable as a day trip
  • Another vote for Cardiff Bay
  • I like the beach at Berrow with the abandoned shipwreck
  • Bath is good like another poster said - I like the Assembly Rooms
  • Glastonbury and Glastonbury Tor

Tyntesfield (NT)
Ty Sculpture Trail, Wraxall
Somerset Lavender Farm, Radstock

Tyntesfield is lovely though visits are being limited to 2hrs. Not been to the other two but friends have & both enjoyed them.

@Avelosa

Bath rocks!

The roman baths are the bomb! Plus the bridge that over looks the fancy waterfall shiz ! Also, the architecture and the town centre shops rock. There is also that posh crescent with all the fancy house's. I think NO 1 Posh House Crescent is open to the public.. i have been there. I have the book . I loved seeing how rich Georgians lived! There is a great tour bus as well around the city and fab places to eat.

Luv bath me... and i'm a cockney!
