Haunted house

My mum told me about the house her and my dad lived in before I was born. It had a high wooden balcony overlooking the hallway and an abandoned nursery on the second floor.

She said both her and dad were creeped out by the place - they were renting at the time. She said three times she saw the figure of a woman wearing a black cowl, above her on the balcony, with a pale face peering over the railings. Each time she saw her, the woman moved closer and closer, from the balcony (first time,) to the landing (second time) and then the third time she was standing on the stairwell, coming down the stairs.

The nursery had old wallpaper and was always freezing cold. Neither of them would go in there - it had a bad feel apparently.

My dad interrupted the story at this point and said that he would purposefully wait after finishing work (he was a teacher at a local college) until he knew mum would be going home so they could go to the house together. He said he would always try never to be there on his own. He's not the kind of person to believe in supernatural things and he's definitely not easily spooked. I've never heard him say anything like this before.

They moved not soon after mum saw the woman with the pale face for the third time coming down the stairs. She said she couldn't sleep there anymore.

Have you ever been in a haunted house or experienced anything strange? What's the creepiest thing that's happened to you?

Years ago we used to have a hamster and used to let it roam around in one of those plastic ball things anyway one night I was in bed trying to go to sleep facing away from the door, when my then 4 year old ran into my room and climbed into bed with me, I thought ignore him and he will go back to sleep, then the hamster came rolling into the room at full speed and banged into my mirror, my 4 year old sat up quickly so I turned over to tell him not to worry it’s only the hamster mummy must’ve forgotten to put him away anyway I turn over and no child in my bed, no hamster in my room I called my mum up crying, I was 27 and it was 2am, she was not impressed

Blatantly keeping this thread alive but I have a couple more, neither of them are mine unfortunately but a work colleague who Im still good friends with used to rent a house in Halesowen with another girl (also an ex colleague) and she insisted she used to see the outline of a man in her room at night standing at the bottom her bed. She always hid under the covers and eventually put it down to her imagination. When she met the guy she was eventually to marry he stayed at her house early in their relationship and one morning over a cuppa said he'd had the weirdest thing happen in the night - he'd got up to go to the loo and when he came back into the bedroom he saw the shape of a man at the bottom of the bed just standing there. This guy is not a woo person at all but he was freaked out by it. My mate had never mentioned the figure to him but both were to go on to have other strange experiences in that house until they moved out a few months later.

When my mum was terminally ill with cancer, she stayed with me and every night around 1-3 ish she would start talking and laughing out loud to her dead husband, she would call me in and I would also have to talk to him to keep her happy, I started recording these conversations as she couldn’t remember them the next day, anyway one night she called my partner and said her husband wanted to speak to him, so as he only had his boxers on he stood outside the room to talk and my mum said oh he can see you hiding in your white pants ! He did have white boxers on

That's so sweet 60sbird. Smile I would find that a huge comfort.

In my family home I had this weird dream once. In the dream I was lying in my bed and the curtains were open, pitch black outside. But I could see a cloaked hooded black figure at the end of my bed. It slowly glided towards me and got right up to my face and went “oohhhh” like as if it were breathing in my face, and the noise was so loud and pronounced. I woke up immediately and couldn’t sleep for the rest of the night! I never felt uneasy in my room though. But I did feel uneasy in my brothers room, which was across the landing from mine. Whenever I was in that room it made me feel so uneasy. I only ever slept in that room once and I had sleep paralysis that night! One of the scariest experiences of my life. My brother also experienced ghostly dreams in his room. One night he woke up screaming, I rushed in to check on him and he had his duvet over his head and asked for me to put the light on. I switched it on and asked him if we was ok, he said yes and I left him to it. The next morning I asked him what happened and he said he had a dream that he was surrounded by figures with no eyes but they had weird smiling mouths. He woke up from the dream and said he saw one sitting on the end of the bed and another hanging over him. That gave me chills when he told me, the fact I had left him alone in his room when he experienced that. I don’t think the house was particularly ‘haunted’ though. Whenever I have stayed at my family home since I moved out I seem to always have dreams that there’s a ghost in the house ironically!

Once I was staying in a (modern, non creepy snowboarding) hostel and was sitting with my back to the wall talking to a guy. I was really aware of the window over my right shoulder; but I'm a little creeped out by windows at night. The conversation with this guy turned to how he believed he could see demonic spirits... and there was one over my right shoulder looking in the window. I would've thought nothing of it only when I turned around the window was the whole length of the wall, not just on my right. And as I was trying to stay chilled about it and rationalise it, three of my friends ran out from our dorm absolutely terrified having just felt a massively oppressive darkness come upon the room.

My cousin and his wife had twins and were co sleeping with the babies. One night he had a terrible nightmare/vision where he saw his grandmothers rotting body in her grave, screaming at him to wake up.
He woke up to find one of the babies had slipped down the bed and was under the duvet struggling to breathe.
He swears she saved the babies life.
