Not an AIBU but need advise..

I turned 36 afew months ago and have suddenly noticed hair growing on my chin. Not a 5 o'clock shadow or anything that obvious. But I have had to pluck random stray hairs from around my chin. And more and more of them are appearing.

Has anyone else had this? Is it normal for a women my age or should I see my doctor?

I googled it and answers ranged from harmless to cancerous tumors!

I think it's normal Blush

toomanyspiderplants · 23/08/2020 18:45

pretty normal I would say.

CastleCrasher · 23/08/2020 18:45

I've had then since early/mid 30s (I blame dc1 as coincided with birth Wink) sometimes get several over a very short period of time, and then none for months. Of course most sprout overnight at half an inch long, despite me checking regularly! The joys of getting older I guess!

dwiz8 · 23/08/2020 18:49

I've had to wax mine since 23/24 so I would say it's normal Blush

Paul72 · 23/08/2020 18:50

I almost did not look at this as the topic title "question" did not say much.
I'd say get it checked. My wife ignored a breast lump for a couple of months and the eventual treatment was far more then if she had gone earlier, Ask your GP who will almost certainly say it is nothing but on the tiny chance that it is significant get it checked.
Seven years after a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy my wife is still alive and we are still in love but some of the after effects are not pleasant

Sparticuscaticus · 23/08/2020 18:54

It's normal
No, you don't need to ask GP to check it unless it's suddenly a full beard
A quick google will say same as MNs here

I have 1 hair on my chin that grows back every time! I pluck it... I’m 28. I also have a few tash hairs Blush that get plucked to. Almost all my friends I have noticed have hair on their face from time to time, I reckon it’s normal.

Thanks for all replies.

I'm glad it seems to be a normal part of getting older Blush

Google had me dead and buried, I should know better.

No. It isn't normal (as in it doesn't affect the majority of women). I am not aware of any women with this problem. About 5-10% women grow hair on their chin. Do you have polycystic ovaries? You should have it checked out, especially if you have gained or lost a lot of weight, even if only to have your mind put at rest.

I haven't been diagnosed with polycystic ovaries but I do get cysts on my ovaries quite regularly. It hasn't affected my fertility (4 children). I have gained weight but my diet hasn't been the best over lockdown if I'm honest.

I dont want to bother my doctor during a pandemic if theres nothing wrong with me. It's hard to know what to do for the best sometimes.

I am 38 and have had a recurring hair on my hair for a few years. I'll check for it regularly, but it still appears overnight about 1cm long, dark and thick! Perfectly normal, why do you think there are so many hair removal products I. The market?

lljkk · 23/08/2020 19:24

When the zombie apocalpyse comes I will ice myself to avoid having a beard in public. It's only rational - late middle aged woman.

Twigletfairy · 23/08/2020 19:25

I'm younger than you and have had this for a while. A couple of stray hairs in the same spots every time. Always seems to grow really dark and really quickly

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 23/08/2020 19:34

It is normal as you get older. My local nail bar advertises chin and upper lip waxing and I know of at least 2 other work mates that use them.
Perhaps women don't talk about it much but I think it's pretty common.

I used to work as a beauty therapist and the number of women coming in for their chins waxed were plentiful

I haven't met one woman who hasn't had the odd chin hair
