There's enough debate how about a vote?
No = YABU
Yes = YANBU

The government can shove their masks right up their arse. I'm sick and tired of this shit.

hedgehogger1 · 26/08/2020 09:37

Yes for secondary kids. No for primary. Along with proper training on how to use them, take them off and on. If people are worried about kids breathing on them then touching them, surely their own breath is fine, unless they have Covid. In which case they really do need to be wearing them!

Nonurbuisness · 26/08/2020 09:38

#monkeytennis97 these children have been punished enough missed lesson, not being able to do gcse, missing out on friendship, being social, the mental health of children is being damaged and all you care about is the teacher who have been paid to do nothing ( I have 3 dc at separate school and have had to fight to get just a single worksheet of work for then) I

Sick and tired of what? Coronavirus? We all are but unfortunately that doesn't make it go away Confused

Irish schools back this week. As the health advice is over 13s must wear a mask in enclosed spaces or where 2m social distancing can't be maintained secondary school pupils (13 to 18 year olds) will have to wear a mask primary school pupils don't but their teachers will have to if they can't maintain 2m distance.

Time will tell how it goes but my 13 year old is not that bothered she's been wearing one for weeks now going shopping into museums etc so is fairly used to it.

It's not about "punishing" either students or "teachers who have been paid to do nothing"

It's a public health measure and it's about safety at a workplace

As with other SD measures, it doesn't require everyone to comply to make a difference

I can see why people have concerns about this, although as someone who uses masks as part of a daily job and have to enforce it to staff for H&S prior to Covid I might be a little more used to the situation and wearing them.

For me personally I'm pleased to see this happening, I've had to make the decision to return DD to sixth form as I can't disrupt her future any more than it has already been but I am clinically extremely vulnerable, we've shielded together for over 5 months so its scary, the masks ease a little of that anxiety. I also talk with many other shielded people, lots work in schools and they are scared returning to work, this will keep them a little safer. I know as shielders we are a tiny minority, I know there are concerns about the masks that others have but this is my personal position and how it effects me directly.

corythatwas · 26/08/2020 10:19

these children have been punished enough

So if they get infected by a classmate and bring the infection home to their mum who ends up with scarring on her lung and a heart disorder- that's their reward, is it?

Protecting children is about all sorts of things. It's about protecting them physically from the virus, but it's also about protecting the adults who look after them. Secondary school children don't tend to exist in a vacuum where they are not affected by what happens to the people around them.

My friend who is still very ill after contracting Covid in March is the same age as many parents of secondary school children. Her family has had to live with this ever since.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 26/08/2020 10:24

For the record, Nicola Sturgeon does wear glasses some of the time.

Nonurbuisness · 26/08/2020 10:27

The mask are only for places in lockdown so are you going to send them to school in a mask if you not in a lockdown area??
I have bad lungs before this bs started. My dh has worked the entire time without a mask. I lost my job, so i was out still doing shopping and other stuff without a mask, I now have a new job I will be doing that without a mask so I don't expect my dc yo wear a mask.

TDGH1234ANON · 26/08/2020 10:34

@Nonurbuisness your experience of fighting to get a worksheet is not across the board. The majority of teachers have worked harder than ever before but unfortunately it sounds like your DCs attend failing schools.

Please can we respect the purpose of the thread. Vote, state your opinion and be done. No arguments or breaking guidelines. I can see you weren't the only one.

Ok so we've got the the details from school now - and having said id rather have blended learning than masks it looks like that is what we're getting - big sixth form centre, not having yr 12 and yr 13 in at the same time, doing live online lessons on the days they are home. Seems sensible to me, i was wondering how they would cope with 500 teens in a small building.

OLGADEEPOLGA · 28/08/2020 22:49

Grubby germ invested pieces of fabric should not be made compulsory.

So you won't be complaining if a case shuts down your DC's bubble, because that's somehow better than wearing masks to reduce the spread? I'm guessing you wouldn't fancy a blended learning model much either.

@WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername

Nicola Sturgeon does not wear glasses. She has no idea of the misery of wearing glasses and face masks and the fact you cannot fucking see for half the time. Visors should be an acceptable alternative

This

OK.
