Quarantine and negative test

I travelled to Spain to see family, Came back over a week ago. Been indoors since. A few days ago I developed a really bad cough (no fever etc) so got tested yesterday. Came back negative.

Im curious to know what people think I should do re. the quarantine and why.

NBU - free to roam
BU - should stay in

Well you might test negative for all 14 of the quarantine days as you may never develop the virus!

I think what you have been told is leaving that if you caught the virus it may take 4 days to show up in a test

I would stay in until 14 days elapsed & then resume my life.

Quarantine- even if you’ve caught something else, you could still be incubating COVID-19. Or you could have a false negative.
The government guidance is that you must quarantine for 14 days from your return regardless of any test results (though if you have a positive result and are still symptomatic after 14 days you should stay in until all symptoms have gone) and that is what we all need you to do.

I wouldn't have known the answer to this until this thread, so thank you for starting it op!

Sounds as if you have to quarantine, doesn't it?

Yep - that's what it looks like!

@IamAporcupine the average incubation period is about 5 days but can be up to around 14. There is slight variations depending on which research though.

It is annoying but as the incubation period is thought to be up to 14 days a negative test isn’t a get out of jail card.

My boyfriend gets out of hospital tomorrow and flies home on Tuesday, he has been tested daily during his stay and every test has been negative. It doesn’t alter the isolation rules and he will still need to isolate for 14 days when he lands as Sweden aren’t in a safe travel corridor.

stressbucket1 · 23/08/2020 21:38

I also thought that even if you have a negative test you should still isolate until you feel better.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed.

I will continue to self-isolate until the 14 days are over (even though I do not think the foreign travel rule makes a lot of sense)

I'd still be interested to hear from the 20% Smile
