New home - used bath and then noticed soap scum!

Hello all
I recently moved into a new property. I am extremely house proud and clean regularly to set about straight away cleaning. I cleaned the bathroom including the bath and later that evening I proceeded to bath my toddler. Only after I got her out I noticed a soap scum mark, higher than her water had been. I then felt awful that I must have missed it completely. I am now concerned that my toddler may have picked something up from it or if I missed anything else in the tub. AIBU??

You cleaned the bath. Your child will be fine.

LovingLola · 22/08/2020 22:19

Yes

What disease do you think she'll get from soap?

DieSchottin93 · 22/08/2020 22:21

Do you have any underlying anxiety issues? What do you think your child can pick up from a clean bath tub?

What exactly do you suspect was wrong with the previous occupant/user of said bath? Confused

Serendipity21 · 22/08/2020 22:25

I’m just more concerned that I obviously didn’t clean it properly as it was obvious I missed a large bit. And I know I am probably being stupid (I know you can’t catch things from toilets seats etc) I’m probably more upset that I put her in a bath that was still abit dirty with someone else’s dirt!

Seriously?! Confused

"I put her in a bath that was still abit dirty with someone else’s dirt!"

Oh the horror. Be sure never ever to take her to swimming lessons or soft play 🤢

SadSoVerySad · 22/08/2020 22:30

I had anxiety when my DS was little. No matter how I reasoned with myself, I needed someone else to tell me something was no big deal. So I understand how you feel.

I hope you are feeling better now. Smile

Serendipity21 · 22/08/2020 22:32

@SadSoVerySad yes I do suffer from anxiety and yes you are completely right, sometimes it does help to ask others the question other than my husband who always says ‘it’s fine’ 🙄

If it’s a plastic/acrylic bath I understand it’s normal procedure for the bathroom fitters to fill the bath with water before tiling, fitting the surrounds and grouting....so that the bath is weighted in the correct position. If so, it is likely just to be that residue.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 22/08/2020 23:01

What on earth.

Serendipity21 · 22/08/2020 23:03

Just to confirm, it’s not a new build - people did live here before so someone had used the bath and not cleaned it before they left. I obviously. Issued it when I cleaned.

It's a good job you didn't move in to our house. Let's just say the previous owners weren't very houseproud! The bathroom had its own mould collection like you couldn't imagine, honestly your little one will be fine . Enjoy your new home.

LightAsTheBreeze · 22/08/2020 23:22

Probably a limescale mark that didn't come off easily with your clean, that’s probably why you thought you had missed it, it will be fine

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/08/2020 23:25

You should listen to your husband though, he told you it was ok and he has an equal interest in keeping his child safe.

He’s not going to steer you in the wrong direction & id imagine it’s hard for him to be second guessed by Internet randoms like us.

MitziK · 22/08/2020 23:26

A relatively rare statement on Mumsnet is coming -

Listen to your husband. He's right.

It's fine.

MitziK · 22/08/2020 23:26

So rare, it's been said twice in 45 seconds, moreover.

Ishihtzuknot · 22/08/2020 23:26

She’ll be fine just give it another once over and a bleach to put your mind at ease before using it again

jgjgjgjgjg · 22/08/2020 23:28

Perhaps you might consider seeking some help with your anxiety, as it seems to be at a level where it is affecting your life?

whiplashy · 22/08/2020 23:30

I (sort of) understand your reaction in a ‘eugh’ way but it will have done her no harm at all

fascinated · 22/08/2020 23:34

You seem to be awfully hard on yourself. You don’t have to be perfect. You’ve just moved house, you have a little child, you’re tired. Give yourself a break. Have a Kit Kat . (Sorry, couldn’t resist). You’re doing a fab job! Enjoy your new house!

BigBadVoodooHat · 22/08/2020 23:34

What might she have picked up? Confused
