iPhone updated - where are all my photos?

My phone has recently updated. I've gone from having 10,000 pics to 366. Where have all my photos gone?

I'm not techy but I've searched google and made sure my Apple iCloud photo option is switched on. I will speak to Apple as soon as I can.

But can anyone help? I was only looking through my pics last night so I know I've not deleted them. X

As someone already mentioned, Amazon Prime do a photo app. It is free and unlimited for photos (not for videos though). I have just backed up all of my photos there as well as having them in my Apple cloud and backed up onto a flash drive.

If you have Amazon Prime, it is worth getting the App as it is part of what you are paying for anyway. It is available on phones or/and PC. It does take ages to get the full back up - and it slows down your internet terribly. I used to set it off backing-up overnight and it took over a week. There is around 30,000 photos though!

funinthesun19 · 23/08/2020 22:23

Yes it’s such a relief that you still have them! I’m really really happy you still have them.
It’s one of my worst fears losing all of my memories.

FunorFitness · 23/08/2020 23:16

So glad you still have them! I have just downloaded amazon prime photos off the back of this thread so will back up to there before doing my update!

8thArmouredBrigade · 23/08/2020 23:59

Recently I’ve been doing exactly what a pp said - getting photos printed off every month.
I don’t trust Apple at all.

funinthesun19 · 24/08/2020 00:11

8thArmouredBrigade I don’t trust Apple either. Definitely boycotting them when I get another phone. And I’m going to go back to good old digital cameras I think.
I’ll treat myself for my birthday Smile

DontBeShelfish · 24/08/2020 11:50

I've started printing mine off, as my laptop has stopped synching to the Cloud and I don't have enough memory to back everything up to the drive. I've got 11,000 photos! I'd be absolutely crushed if I lost everything.

I am absolutely terrible for just mindlessly snapping pictures, though - I'm going to try and be more mindful about what I'm posting.

weathervane1 · 24/08/2020 16:10

As I said higher up, this app can sync / copy / transfer unlimited photos in all directions between iPhone, iPad, PC and MAC, including external storage devices.

Photo Transfer App - Bitwise by Bitwise Software SL apps.apple.com/gb/app/photo-transfer-app-bitwise/id365152940

This actually happened to me a few years back, done an update and it wiped all my icloud photos. Took it to the genius bar and they couldn't work out what happened. Done the next update and they miraculously appeared again. I moved away from apple after that lol

timeforawine · 01/09/2020 09:11

@autumnredhead did you get sorted? Which software version was it? I'm scared to update mine now!

contrmary · 01/09/2020 09:25

@AuntieStella

Can someone signpost any good ways to keep iPhone and iPad pix backed up elsewhere?

Can you get anything that will plug in and suck out?

Or good places to store online somewhere

I back up phone to cloud regularly, but not iPad (it's mine, but linked originally to DH's phone, and I'd prefer my pix somewhere other than his cloud!)

Plug the USB connector into a computer (Windows 10 in this example).

A message stating "Allow this device to access photos and videos?" will appear on phone, press "allow".

"Apple iPhone" will appear as a drive on "this PC" folder. Open it, then open "internal storage" folder, then open "DCIM" folder. Copy the contents to a PC.

Oldraver · 01/09/2020 09:33

I've been avoiding an update (charging through the day instead) and just reading this thread...yes my phone doubled all my photos a while back

TwoZeroTwoZero · 01/09/2020 09:36

I'm glad you got your photos back op.

As well as printing all of my family photos and putting them into albums using the freeprints app mentioned above, I back my photos up so I have a copy on my phone, a copy on my laptop and a copy on my external hard-drive.

autumnredhead · 02/09/2020 20:51

@timeforawine - nope still no sign of them 🙄.

OP posts:
autumnredhead · 02/09/2020 20:53

@timeforawine it was iOS 13.6.1

Oh no Sad i hope they come back. Isn't there another software update now, 13.7, maybe that will return them from wherever the hell they are 🤞🏻

LadyEloise · 17/09/2020 19:13

There definitely was mention of a glitch whereby photos were lost when updating.
