AIBU to chuck it in the bin?

Got it together enough today to prep veg and chicken and make a bake ahead of dinner as DS is teething and we've had a few late dinners. Asked DH to take it out of oven in 10 as I was taking DH to the park.

Came back and it was in the top cold oven - great. Got it out and took some for DS dinner. I noticed there were a couole of flies around so put it back in cold oven and killed flies. They always seem to be one or two at the moment.

I mentioned the annoying flies to DH later. He said 'yes I noticed them earlier they were on the food when I came down'. Turns out he had taken the bake out and left it on the side, came down for a drink and noticed flies on it so put it back in top oven. This was about 20mins he reckons. I think we now need to chuck this as it had flies crawling on it for 20mins. Annoyed at lack of common sense and that he didn't tell me and then I fed it to my DS. He thinks food is still OK I think but agreeing with me so I don't argue with him.

AIBU - the food is fine tuck in
YANBU - gross chuck it

@SchrodingersImmigrant I really think you want to look up what flies do when they land on food and where their favourite hang out places are (namely rotten food and faeces). not sure you would be so quick to judge those of us who would rather not have pathogens with our chips thank you

I know what flies do. I am not stupid. I do however find it quite amusing when people talk about it like if it were the Black death and don't seem to realise that flies, or other insects includin ones which like rotting stuff, touch a large part of food we eat. It's impossible not to have some "pathogen" on your food. Hence why I am rolling my eyes( and yes, judging) at people who would rather waste food than get over the fact that we eat things we can't see, which if we would we would find "eww" every day.

not comparing it to the black death but once I've seen it, ive seen it. cant help it, makes me feel sick. up to me what I choose to do with my food

No wonder we throw away so much food in this country. It's actually quite embarrassing.

Mochudhu · 21/08/2020 15:31

I'd chuck it because of the bacteria that could be breeding if it's been sitting for a while at presumably ambient temperature in the top oven.

Can you chop the top off?
