Using my idea?

I told my manager my idea regarding something to do with work.

This idea was then rolled out to the entire team - with no mention of me.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t expect people on their knees praising me. But the managers higher up approved it but there was no recognition at all.

Should I take it personal no one ever responds to my threads? Sad

That is quite unfair on you. You arent looking to be bathed in glory but i completely understand that a bit of credit or just a mention that it was your idea wouldn't go amiss.

If it was rolled out by email is there a way you could respond to all saying you are really pleased that your idea is being taken on board and you are looking forward to working on it with everyone?

PawPawNoodle · 20/08/2020 20:51

I think it depends on what it is and how it impacts the way people work. Changing a whole operating process - yes should get credit. Using black pens instead of blue - not worth thinking about.

PawPawNoodle · 20/08/2020 20:52

In fact I'm not sure that even changing an operating process needs any more than just recognition from managers.

Is it something that she thinks you don't want people knowing it came from you?
Maybe she was seeing how they reacted in case they disagreed and blamed you?

If it was a good idea I would definitely be upset.

Can you explain to your manager i it made you feel, and ask him/her why they did not credit you? Or maybe even send them an email with the question if that’s not weird ( eg they don’t sit next to you or by you all day). That way you’d have it in writing and if they do it repeatedly you can take to HR. Check and see if they just do it with you and certain other people or they just don’t credit anyone...

I'd be raging

It could potentially reduce our work load because as a team we’re so far behind which is stressful. So nothing major but also not insignificant.

It was rolled out in a meeting (zoom - we won’t be back in the office until next year).

Just felt all they could have said was - we’re going to trial Atthr’s idea next week, this is what it is and we’ll see how it goes.

The way it was spoken about it came across as an idea thought up by management.

I’m really disheartened at work right now so perhaps I’m taking it too personally.

Make sure you put it in your annual appraisal.

P999 · 20/08/2020 22:48

Yes. Good point. In your next appraisal. Its poor management not to have mentioned you.

Almostlegible · 20/08/2020 23:26

You’re right to be miffed at this. A good manager always credits their team members with good ideas.
Making a note of this for your next appraisal has been mentioned and this is a good idea - at least it’ll be on the record.
I wonder if other team members have experienced this too?
For the future, maybe mention your ideas at meetings only, or in an email which others will see. This way they can’t take the credit.
