To cancel my hairdresser's appointment?

I booked my appointment about a month ago. She's mobile and I asked about the patch gets. She atil hasn't sent it. Personally I don't mind the lack of test but I know not having me most likely will invalidate her insurance. I can't decide if I should cancel or just hope it will arrive before Sunday. (I doubt it as mail delivery isn't back to normal over here).

Can she not drop one off for you?

GinWithRosie · 20/08/2020 15:38

I didn't know this about insurance! Is that true? (I'm not doubting you OP, just curious). I've rarely had a patch test to be fair...doesn't bother me either way, but I didn't realise that it 'should' be done, I just thought that some places did it and some didn't 🤷‍♀️ I'm having my highlights done tomorrow at a big salon in town (full head). I've not had a patch test...booked online.

BBCONEANDTWO · 20/08/2020 15:39

I've never had a patch test? Can they do it on the day?

dementedpixie · 20/08/2020 15:42

No they have to patch test in advance. I had a patch test the first time I had my hair coloured at my current salon but not since. That was the first time any salon had ever done a test as none of the others have offered it

GinWithRosie · 20/08/2020 15:56

I've just googled it...it is actually a legal requirement 😳 Wow 😱

Every day is a learning day 🤷‍♀️

Easylikesunday · 20/08/2020 16:25

She could drop it off but she lives 30mins away.

24-48 hours prior, specific to manufacture. Yes, its a legal requirement that invalidates public liability insurance. Also should be having one every 6-12 weeks (again, manufacturer specific!), if you are going longer between appointment than the frequency of tests recommended.

I think it’s different with highlights! I wondered the same when I had some last month but apparently it’s because they’re not actually touching the scalp? Just what I read on mumsnet Grin
UnfinishedSymphon · 20/08/2020 17:04

I've been going to the same salon for 15 years and having colours and highlights, I've never been asked to do a patch test!

Newnamenewopenme · 20/08/2020 17:08

Mine makes me have one maybe every 3 times I go, and that’s my close friends salon so is probably more lenient with me than others!

LovingLola · 20/08/2020 17:10

That’s seriously negligent on their part.

Jaxhog · 20/08/2020 17:14

I would.

I always have a patch test, since reacting to one many years ago.

Onesailwait · 20/08/2020 17:15

Why dont you just call her and ask

Easylikesunday · 20/08/2020 17:18

She's said she'll post it tomorrow.

I got asked to do one when the formulation changed. That was the only salon one I have ever been offered.

It's not different with highlights and is the sign of a seriously negligent hairdresser.

There have also been reports of rising reactions in the industry due to suspected imunoresponse to covid.

If they don't take basic precautions, imagine what else they don't do properly?
