To move to Portugal?

To start, I know I'm being unreasonable to post this here but this is where the traffic is Blush

DH and I can both work remotely, in fact that has become a more or less permanent arrangement with our companies due to the pandemic. Neither of us speak Portuguese but we would of course start learning. We're looking at Lisbon, we can buy property and we definitely want to stay at least five years to get citizenship.

I'm hoping some posters who live in Portugal can respond to this with honest opinions/experiences.

Sorry that was in response to "Essentially you can pay no income tax there if you can be paid outside of Portugal."

I know of some people who are doing this but I thought there was a list (albeit a fairly broad one) of eligible occupations?

I now live in Portugal and have no regrets. I’ve met fellow immigrants from the U.K., Ireland, South Africa, Canada, America and Romania, some of whom have been here for over 10 years and all, literally all, say it is the best thing they have done.
Your OP deals with one of the main drawbacks, - there are fewer job opportunities here and wages are lower, but if you are working remotely, as my husband does, or retired, then that is not a concern. If you have children, you might have to factor in how you would feel if they returned to the U.K. for those or other reasons for higher education or work.

We have private health insurance with Medal via AFPOP and it is very cheap compared to the U.K. It is just amazing, I’ve seen a gynaecologist the same day I walked into the local clinic. DH has had similar experiences.
A friend doesn’t have private medical insurance and she’s very happy with the SNS (NHS).
