It is not a movie, or a culture, or a religious garment.

"People who do not wear the mask"

It sounds ridiculous.

A mask. Masks. Face coverings. Not "The Mask".

Pah.

Hate 'mask up' too. It has the same cringey, shuddery effect on me as the words which always turn up in the 'words you can't stand' threads.

herecomesthsun · 20/08/2020 12:29

This is the first time I have seen this.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 20/08/2020 12:30

YANBU. It makes me think of people who wear “the veil” for religious reasons, such as becoming a nun. Those who say they wear “the mask” are usually even more pious Grin

@WorkinWomansBlues

Who is saying this? Not heard it once... what a strange affectation...
Nope me neither.
BBCONEANDTWO · 20/08/2020 12:41

I always thought 'the Shielded' sounded odd as well.

@MoonBaby1

I’ve heard the muzzle on some conspiracy sites Grin
I wonder why they're really so against wearing the things, when surely, if they're against government/cabal/secret society/masonic/islamic/jewish/nazi/feminist/non white/communist/alien/whatever conspiracies and monitoring, the best thing to do is wear a mask so they aren't picked up on facial recognition?

I've never heard any one use the 'the' in this context. Who are you hearing this from OP?

Not heard - only read it on here. In the prolific mask threads I keep being drawn to.

I wonder if those who use it in writing say it out loud too?
