AIBU to be annoyed about new car and expect it to be fixed?

Evening all,
So I bought a new car 2 weeks ago (3 years old but bought through main dealer with a warranty and through their 'approved used' scheme). When I test drove it the air con did not work so this was written down as needed to be sorted before I agreed to the sale - all was good on collection and has been for 2 weeks, told it just needed regassing. Now today the aircon has stopped working again! There is obviously a leak or something but have read online they often say it's from stones making holes in the system or even the compressor so not covered in warranty and can cost £500 plus. I am going to ring tomorrow but AIBU to be armed with the view that they should fix this without me having to fork out? It clearly is not wear and tear that I have caused in under 2 weeks! Thanks

I work at a main dealer.

If this happened, we would either do a full air con service (if it needed it within manufacturing guidelines) or a regass with a leak dye and explained that the customer would need to come back after 1-2 weeks to check for any leaks (irritating but at least then we would have a trace and be able to claim under warranty) this is to protect you and the business.

Unfortunately, damage can occur from a stone flying up and cause damage to compressor which wouldn’t be covered under warranty. Main dealers (that are decent) should’ve done this as they would’ve been paid and would get paid through warranty had there been an issue.

You need to ask when the air con service was due and why they didn’t put a leak dye in it.

In any case, they should cover the costs, doesn’t mean they won’t.

If it’s a main dealer, I would go to customer care if the dealer is unwilling to help and customer care should be able to speak with the dealer and hopefully get the result you want.

Great thank you for your help. I understand stones can fly up and cause damage as wear and tear but if this is the case feel it is likely that this damage was already there when sold due to regas only lasting 10 days but wasnt sure where I stood with this. Hopefully they will sort as it was specifically written in the list of things to 'sort' before accepting.

Definitely go back and argue this. Ask if they added a leak dye to make sure no leaks / see where it’s coming from if there is one.

You shouldn’t have to pay a bill after 2 weeks of owning it. Especially if they have done what they should’ve done in the first place.

Plus, it’s just good customer service to investigate and sort it for you after such a short time.
