Botox...

Probably being unreasonable not to put this in Style and Beauty. Sorry.

I'm thinking of trying botox; specifically for my forehead. Is this a bad/risky idea? Is there anything I should bear in mind? Places to avoid? Recommendations? Alternatives? How much should I expect to pay? How long does it last?

I'm just looking for something very subtle to remove or at least minimise my "elevens". Oh, I'm in London.

Thank you.

A friend of mine had it done a few months before lockdown. Only wanted a subtle difference, he had a tiny amount of botox in 3 areas it cost about €350

Notimeforaname · 19/08/2020 12:45

Depends on your metabolism how quickly it wears off. If you're extremely fit with a fast metabolism you will need to re do botox sooner than the average Joe.
I think 6months is the average lasting time.

Notimeforaname · 19/08/2020 12:46

Just make sure you go to a reputable /high end clinic. They will explain all risk on consultation. Consultation costs also.

Done properly, it’s absolutely brilliant.

I go to a registered and practicing GP like twice a year to get it done for my really bad 'elevens' - the frown lines between brows. Costs £120. Never had a problem. My mum went to a non-medical professional and had bruising and bleeding.

chipsandpeas · 19/08/2020 12:51

i get mine done at my dentist, it takes the lines away and i look fresher with it but its quite subtle
i get it done usually 4-5 months however its been nearly a year since i had it dne as should have had it in march but was dragging it out until may til i went on holiday, obv lockdown happened and the holiday didnt and i dont think my dentist has started it back up again but i will be there as soon as i can

This exactly. You must go to the right person.
I go to proper Doctor and he is excellent.

This massively changed my face for the better. I looked younger and fresher now than I did 15 years ago. I'm in my early 50s and nobody ever believes that.

Is that your common or garden local GP? Or someone in a skincare clinic type thing? Was there a consultation fee?

Thanks for the advice. Can anyone recommend a specific clinic?

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel wow you've had some pretty great results! This is why I really want to try it. But I keep thinking too much into it and then get too afraid and worrying my face will swell up to twice its size or somthing will go wrong or I'll be allergic to somthing 🙄

ErickBroch · 19/08/2020 14:12

OP I sent you a message!

Greydove28 · 19/08/2020 17:21

Watching with interest. I want to do the same

Agreed. You always get people on here saying it looks very obvious but that’s only on people who have overdone it.

Done well, you’ll just look very fresh and like you’ve had a good night’s sleep. I saw a friend who’d had it done and thought she looked great in a “have you had your hair done / using a new foundation / is it that colour that suits you” type way, I certainly didn’t notice it was that she was less wrinkly, she just looked really fresh

HeyBlaby · 19/08/2020 17:28

Always visit a registered HCP who has been doing botox for a good while, someone well reviewed and not the cheapest!

A registered nurse who was recommended by a friend does mine £190 for 3 areas, had done 5 times with no issues, lasts me about 3 months but others report longer.

PicklePig31 · 19/08/2020 17:43

No one can tell I’ve had mine...

I’m 34 and had the first round before Christmas. Two areas. Went to the best place where I lived, ran by qualified nurses with 20 years of aesthetic experience on top of their NHS nurse experience.

I had a proper consultation before my first round. Then was booked in a week later. Then they checked what they had done after a fortnight and topped up if needed (mine was perfect).

My metabolism is fast and hair/lashes/nails grow super quick and I was warned that it would wear off quicker as basically your body rejects it. Over time you build up more tolerance...

Had my second full app in March before lockdown and another in July. The third app I barely had to have anything in as over lockdown I hadn’t been frowning as much so it had stayed put.

A good place will explain this all to you. Honestly, it’s the best beauty thing I’ve done and I’ll continue going every 6 months or so to keep my forehead looking smooth.

PicklePig31 · 19/08/2020 17:46

@UnaCorda you’ll also need two areas doing... between the eyes and forehead (they’ll explain why when you go!) and mine is £180 for this (I live up north and this is expensive but so worth it!)
