To report DB's car?

DB crashed his car into a flooded river and wrote it off approx 3 years ago (nobody hurt, just left cold and wet). DB has owned the car since new (over 20 years) and is very attached to it. DB developed a serious illness soon after the accident which means he can no longer drive (ever). Since the accident the car has been parked on a side road next to the house. It's full of mold on the interior (likely a serious biohazard) and rusting away. It isn't driveable. DB has said several times over the years that he will call a scrapman to take it away "when he is ready". Unfortunately it's been 3 years now and he still "isn't ready". I've offered to call them myself but he says "no he'll sort it soon". Unfortunately I think he's so attached that he can't bare to let it go even though he'll never drive it again. Wibu to annomously report it to the council? It's parked on public land, the nearest neighbours have already complained and I'm fed up of nagging him about it. Hoping the council will give him an ultimation to finally scrap it! Aibu?

If it's not driveable then presumably it has no MOT and no insurance. If it does not have those then it should be declared off-road and should be kept on private land.

If the road it is parked on is public then I imagine, based on what you've said, that it's illegal for it to be there.

I would report it via the DVLA website. They'll come and put stickers on it and then you can say he needs to move it before it causes more trouble.

WorraLiberty · 19/08/2020 00:13

Why the fuck would you do that unless you want to park there yourself?

If the nearest neighbour are complaining, they'll be reporting it I'm sure.

If what the OP has posted is accurate, then the car is parked illegally on a public road. Which is why it should be reported if that is the case.

If it's on a public road and untaxed, and is bothering the neighbours, they can report it to DVLA and it'll get clamped/ towed.

I'm not sure why you have to get involved on the neighbour's behalf! Let them sort it out if your DB won't.

Its a biohazard? Fucking lol

Nasty

I very much doubt a drowned car couldve been left on a public road for 3 years with no tax insurance or mot without it being reported already

Feelingconfused2020 · 19/08/2020 00:36

I would leave him to deal with it.

PercyKirke · 19/08/2020 00:42

If you want your relationship with your brother to turn toxic, then report it OP. Otherwise, let the neighbours deal with it.

WinterHasCome · 19/08/2020 01:24

I don't understand how this situation affects your life in any way at all?

Barryisland · 19/08/2020 01:39

Keep your beak out!

whereistherum · 19/08/2020 01:42

Is it next to your house?

curiousierandcouriser · 19/08/2020 04:30

Why are you worrying about this OP? If the neighbors complain to you, you can suggest that they report it, otherwise, its no skin off your nose.

Noneformethanks · 19/08/2020 04:32

Do you want to destroy your relationship with your brother?

If the neighbours are bothered they can report it.
