Garden party??

Just wondered how many can you have in your garden for a party ?? Is it 6 people?
I've been invited to a family members house for their 50th Anniversary which they will be holding in the garden but have since found out quite a few people will be going from various different households . I've flatly refused, I have 3 young children but this is now causing them to be upset with me .. AIBU?? I don't think I am, this virus hasn't gone away? They seem to think it's illegal if they go over 30?

@Lockdownseperation the covid death rate and hospital rates are very very low atm.

It doesn't matter if cases spread, we need it to spread, but at a slower pace than originally so if some peiple need hospital care the NHS can cope.

None of these measures are to completely stop the spread of covid, it needs to carry on spreading

I think if it was just me I would go as I would take all the precautions to socially distance etc but my young children wouldn't and large gatherings to me is too risky for my children . I feel awful upsetting people though

Why do we need it to spread? All scientific research suggests any immunity from catching it will only last a few months at the most so herd immunity is not possible.

Clear as mud isn't it 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Ohhh I've just had a great idea OP...you can use my classroom! You can have 30 in there, no need to distance at all apparently (it's KS1 so you're good to go 👍) Nobody needs to wear any masks or any kind of PPE in schools (because COVID flys over schools and avoids all adults who work in them, so your friends and relatives should be fine 👍)

I'll lend you my door fob, as long as I get it back by next Wednesday as I'm going in after that to start the deep cleaning of all my stuff 🤦‍♀️

I'm pretty relaxed about outdoor gatherings as long as the space isn't so small that you are all crammed in together. It's pretty easy to social distance and you will be in the open air, which lowers transmission risk.

A rough rule of thumb is that if you have to pay money to be somewhere then it's allowed, but if there's no economic activity involved it's banned.

At least it seems like that to me.

Lazypuppy · 19/08/2020 12:48

@Lockdownseperation if you are waiting for covid to vanish completely you will be waiting a very long time.

Yes immunity may not last long, but it will end up being treated like the flu, so new vaccine each year for vunerable. Everyone else gets a mild case of it more frequently.

Covid isn't like chicken pox where you only get it once.

Everyone's immune systems need to learn how to fight it, which means you need to catch it to get the t cells for future.

Most people I know are just socially distancing (and most are not) and just going about there normal lives. Not sure why having kids is relevant? Schools are back in Scotland and will be soon in England ect... no one is really sticking to the rules anymore I think it’s more common sense, hand washing and social distancing.
