Actual coronavirus cases in Uk

Just read the following in a news site.

Does this mean we do not know the true extent of cases in UK.

Less than a third of people positive for Covid showing symptoms
Less than a third of people testing positive for coronavirus reported having symptoms, new figures have shown.

An analysis by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) found that only around 28% of people testing positive for Covid-19 reported any evidence of symptoms at the time of their swab test or at either the preceding or subsequent tests.

The remaining 72% of positive cases either did not report having any of the specific or general symptoms on the day of their positive swab test, preceding or subsequent swab tests or did not answer both questions, the ONS added.

It said that the findings, published on Tuesday, suggested that there was a “potentially large number” of asymptomatic cases of the virus.

Probably true which is great. Hospital I work in has no cases now. Whilst being vigilant think we all need to get back to some normality instead of this terrifying mass hysteria that has been created

I agree with PP. I work in a very large teaching hospital in the north of England (1000+ beds) and they have 4 positive cases as inpatients.

The number of cases has been increasing.
And the large number of undetected and asymptomatic means that if prevention measures are eased down significantly, clusters with severe cases will pop out everywhere.

I think this has always been the case - some people are asymptotic, some people are unwell but don’t get tested and some may have slight symptoms and not see it as Covid. There also may be deaths that we don’t realise are due to Covid.
Infection numbers are rising because we are testing more; the death and hospital rates are more important in my opinion.

Equally the cost to mental health, delayed diagnosis and treatment and general well being needs to be considered in society overall.

There is an excellent video by ZdoggMD about asymptomatic cases. You can find it on YouTube or Facebook. He's incredibly balanced with his views.

It's hard to say because deaths tend to lag 2-3 weeks behind case detection.

Cases aren't rising that fast anyway, but it's a sign that it isn't going away and people can't exactly relax.

Based on these data, I don't think testing alone explains the constant rise in cases for the past month.

Until we test every single person in the country on the same day for the antigen, we won’t know how many cases of active infection there are. What is useful is that there must be quite large numbers of people who have contracted the virus, not suffered any symptoms and are now immune due to the presence of antibodies.

Children seem to acquire the infection and show no symptoms but are actively spreading it. Just wait till they go back to school. I anticipate infections to rise exponentially.

I find Dr. John Campbell’s YouTube channel most informative. He generally posts every day, looking at the latest research papers and news reports, and gives his analysis

That is my worry around children. If they are asymptomatic and meet my aged parents.
