Scottish schools - was the return a success?

I'm posting in AIBU for traffic. Hence no voting.

A question for MN's in Scotland. May I enquire how the return to school has been?

Any tips you can share with those south of the border for when our schools reopen in a few weeks time?

Thanks

DS just started P1. So far seems pretty good. They have a 15min window to start in the morning so can arrive anytime at that time and go straight in so not too many parents hanging around in the mornings. Pick up is all at the same time though. They have to wear joggers, etc on PE days so no getting changed. Still get hot meals but have been provided with stationary at school so don’t need to take it in

my daughter is 7 and been back full time since thursday. she seems fine about it. lots of instructions re entering/exiting. normally I'd obey but havent on this occasion, they want everyone to exit via 1 gate which is congested so I'm using another.

there have been 2 confirmed cases in primary schools in my area in the last few day so will wait to see how it goes.

@TeenTraumaTrials

WeAllHaveWings - I think this

Each year has own area outside school at break. Packed lunch or preorder lunch in school only, delivered to class rooms for each year/house

is a good approach - not happening in my DCs school but really simple to do

It is a really good system rolled out very quickly to all schools in EAC I think.

Ds has an app on his phone with 2 week rotating menu, he can order between 3pm - 11am and pay with parent pay so it removes all cash or fingerprint transactions.

FelicityPike · 19/08/2020 08:39

@WeAllHaveWings wish they’d have done it for EAC primaries too, mind you probably would’ve had a lot of wee folk changing their minds.

crazycatlady20 · 19/08/2020 09:31

@Dugheed yeah. I'm not surprised and think there will be more to come. its inevitable really.

crazycatlady20 · 19/08/2020 09:36

I dont mean that it will be the fault of the schools or local Council tho, I just think as places etc start to open more cases will appear. it really goes against human nature to socially distance, I know I've been caught out myself.

I was surprised at the positive case in the primary school though after all the talk that kids didnt really get it.

malloo · 19/08/2020 09:43

All good here, schools are doing a great job, kids are happy. Think its probably working better for primaries than secondaries because, well, teenagers! So we'll just have to wait and see. I'm sitting in the house alone working in blissful peace and quietGrin

We are having a wee bit of playground drama which to me just goes to show how important school is. The 6/7yr olds have gone backwards a bit in their ability to negotiate social spaces with unrelated children and looser adult supervision. It’s good they’re back.

@museumum

I imagine it will take time for things to settle. Those social interactions skills are rusty for most of us

@malloo

Sounds great, my children cannot wait to meet up with their friends again!

@hopelessatthinkingupusernames

Our school is having just the 2 start times - KS2 first with a 20 minute window and no parents in the school at all. Then KS1 are due in after and dropping at the gate to individual teachers.
