Independent schools are more likely to open and remain open in the autumn term

Just that - please vote.
Reasons: - smaller class sizes

  • larger premises
  • more money for sanitiser and cleaning, handwashing facilities
  • many have put in place safety measures. Sanitiser, optional masks, one way systems, staggered lunch time, optional use of masks, testing
  • parental expectation
  • they can set their own rules and make parents sign up
  • can insist on temperature checks

Cons: - richer parents more likely to have holidayed etc. Cannot think of any others.
The reason I am asking is because I know 2 people who moved their kids over the summer holidays from state to independent.

@HoldMyLobster, I’m in CT, so also a “good” state. Our canteen won’t even open, no recess, but they are planning to hold fall sports, at least for the younger children.

Surrounding districts in CT have tentative full return dates of the first week in October, but I guess we will see. The surrounding privates are all going in full from the start. They are over subscribed this year because of people fleeing NYC for the burbs.

My children go to the mmmmm private school - they are opening as per usual - they have a maximum of 15 students per class, my child’s class has 13 only.

My two attend private schools and are in classes of less than 15. My stepkids attend a huge state school that has banned masks....its absurd and outrageous. The

Who knows, but the private schools have been much more keen to deliver online learning and doing targeted teaching.

Not least because they have to stay a step ahead to stay alive.

State and indi dont compare in my personal experience. It's almost like comparing two completely different things.

My two DCs are at a small rural prep. The school did brilliantly during lockdown with a full online video timetable and two weeks back at school in June. They also remained open for key workers children. It is an old building but there are lots of rooms and over 60 acres of land

I met with the head last week about something else and we will have

Staggered drop off and pick up times. All parents remain in car
Children's temp taken
Class sizes are less than 15 and only 2 per year so full year bubbles
Sports against other schools cancelled so competitive sport will be house based
One way system
Hand sanitiser
Staggered lunches
As full year bubbles they will return to sets which is hugely important
Boarders will be in a second bubble
After school clubs still being worked on.
She said that the guidance still had to be followed but there is more room for the heads to make their own risk based assessments

We are going to really struggle to pay fees this year but have found a way as they have been so fantastic during all this (but they had to be hey!!)
