To not want my nephew in the house at weekend?

My nephews school (teenagers) is part of a covid cluster. He is in year below but has had passing contact with at least 1 of the pupils in question. They have been told there isn't a risk to other pupils. The cluster number is growing.

We have vulnerable family members and I also have health conditions.

We were due to have them over for dinner next weekend, I want to say we cancel that and rearrange when we have clearer answers about the cluster spread.

Am I over reacting? I have been told I am.

Covid has turned everyone into paranoid weirdos. For goodness sake get a grip, the fatality rate is 0.002%!

For me @Sunnydazey it’s partly about keeping children at school, the more they mix outside school the more likely schools are to close

@Sunnydazey that's easy to say if you don't have an at risk health conditions or know someone who has died. We have both.

OP has said there are vulnerable people in the family, so they have more cause for concern than the general population.

And even if she's not worried about covid itself (I wouldn't be for our household), the risk of having to isolate is higher which is a real nightmare for some households with no income, loss of childcare etc.

Postponing a casual pizza evening for a couple of weeks isn't such a drastic action to take to avoid the hassle. In a couple of weeks they'll be able to enjoy the evening with a lower risk.
