Is the mini pill making me feel like this?

I’ve been on the mini pill (Destogestrel) for 4 weeks now. In the last week I’ve been waking up with awful anxiety. I’m not sleeping well and waking up with this pit of anxiety in my stomach. I feel so low and angry all the time, the smallest things are making me boil over with anger, so much so I’m having to take myself off to my bedroom so I don’t snap at my dh or kids. I feel completely overwhelmed and often suicidal. I have a long history of depression, I’m on mirtazipine 15mg a day (taken at bedtime) and have been on that for 4 years. It was working brilliantly for me, I was sleeping and my anxiety was kept in check. I wasn’t thrilled with the weight gain but it was more important to me that my mental health got better. I also have epilepsy and take 200mg lamatrogine a day. But since starting the pill I just feel dreadful. I feel this impending sense of doom all the time, I cry at everything and my anxiety is just horrific. I’m having physical symptoms like shaking, sweating, nausea, upset stomach. I don’t know what else is going on, nothing in my life has changed except starting the pill. Has anyone else had these symptoms? Could it be the pill?

I was on Destogestrel and I was an emotional wreck all the time, and I have heard a lot of stories of people struggling when they're on it, so most likely! I'm very sorry you're feeling this way though, it must be horrible.

I am now on Millinette, which I was told by the doctor that it was a 'mircodosage' or something along those lines and I am getting on pretty well with it.

I hope you feel better soonFlowers

I've actually just come off the mini pill and am feeling this way! No idea if this is just how I should've been feeling all those years and the pills masks it. What I do know is that every woman reacts differently to hormonal contraception so yes, it's very likely the pill that's making you feel this way. There's not a huge amount of research into the effects because it's a women's problem! So it's all just anecdotal, but very real.

It might be but it also might settle over time

Is a double dose of cerazette good for a person .... currently working with someone with complex needs. Who used to get a bit upset n angry coming up to her monthlys.
Dr's have now put her on 2 cerazette to stop her periods . And now she is totally out of control , mood swings, angry self harming and harming the carers ... surely a double dose of progesterone Is having an effect on her ???

Everything you've said is certainly pointing at the mini-pill. The best thing I ever did for my mental health (depression and anxiety) was come off of hormonal contraception.
