About the stinky cheese (lighthearted)

DH (French) likes super stinky cheese. I roll with it usually, because there’s a limit to Sainsbury’s selections, but he’s found a specialist shop to indulge him, and it is unbearable.
Honest to god, it smells like feet and farts in the kitchen these days. No keeping it in the fridge to limit the stink as that is unacceptable.
I, otoh, feel divorce is an acceptable option. Thoughts?

M&S usually stock Epoisses.

@Elouera - his family gleefully chatter about ‘Papi’s’ love for maggotty cheeses. I’m like this 😯🤮

Hi, cheesemonger here. Cheese should always be kept in the fridge, especially soft and blue cheeses! Only take them out of the fridge an hour or so before eating, to let them get to room temperature.

As for the smell, tupperware is probably the best option, and keep them wrapped in the waxed paper, to let the cheese "breathe".

I would refrigerate because otherwise the quantity of a particular chemical that induces migraines can increase in them.

Then get them out a few hours before eating.

I would wrap then box then box again as otherwise they taint everything else in the fridge. I love cheese but I don't want everything I eat to taste of it!

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!

There’s cheese with maggots in? On purpose? And people knowingly eat it?! How??! Do they remove the maggots first??

@Lincslady53

My sister lives in the Charente. On a visit last year, she bought some Epoisses cheese, a bit like a Camembert crosses with Drinking Bishop. Not was it good. Tried to find it over here with no joy so far, but can recommend it.
If you are ever in Chester @Lincslady53 The Cheese Shop is a good bet for Stinking Bishop

Tesco have a cheese called St Felicien that is like the love child of Brie and manchego...

Lincslady53 · 17/08/2020 07:44

We can get Stinking Bishop ok from Booths, I shall be in th he cheese section of M and S on my next trip to town for some Epoisses. M and S start good deliveries through Ocado so that might work.

I'm a cruel person but the only time stinky cheese is allowed in the house is at Christmas, or if I'm planning to be away for the weekend 😂

Graffitiqueen · 17/08/2020 08:31

Sainsbury's and Waitrose both sell Epoisses.

MiddleClassProblem · 17/08/2020 09:00

Tesco too

TheSunIsStillShining · 17/08/2020 09:06

My husband is the same. Ziplock bags won't cut it.
I'd also suggest your husband tries a Hungarian delicacy called Palpusztai sajt.

Not even the smelliest french cheese comes close. It is a mix of dirty socks, sweat and some other smells... just vile. But apparently tastes good.
