Do I really have to go across and deliver it leaving the 3 SmallDragons in the house?

They're in, they can see I'm in, I can only assume the postman didn't leave a card ( he was having a Bad Day, he told me so ). Mind you, they've done this before. Bah!

[grump] [petulant]

if you can see your house from there, don't see the harm in whipping across. but, if postman leaves a card that neighbour as parcel for me, i'll go pick up myself..

covenhope · 03/10/2007 18:58

We always end up playing postman too. YANBU. it makes me grrr too!

Skyler · 03/10/2007 18:59

I am sure they would have been across if they knew you had it. I would deliver it but only at my convenience ie not leaving the Dragons.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 03/10/2007 18:59

I'm reluctant to make an effort because I now remember that all I got in return for taking the last parcel over was a kind of look and not a "thank you".

and it's cold and dark.

And because no one was around when my parcel arrived and I had to drive off to the post office collection office to fetch it. [double grump]

chill

auntyquated · 03/10/2007 19:01

yabu

they might have had a crap day at work/they might be in a rush/ they could be ill/expecting visitors at any min/1001 other reasons

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 03/10/2007 19:01

2 bad days.

Just leave it until you can go over without leaving the children. If they have had a card they can't be that desperate, and if they haven't got a card, you can't really blame them for not coming for a parcel they don't know is there.

FLIER · 03/10/2007 19:03

don't accept a parcel for them next time, if its going to get you all hot and bothered, they'll just have to pick up from the PO

brimfull · 03/10/2007 19:05

funnily enough I went round to see a good friend of mine and she had a note from the postman saying parcel was next door.SHe moaned to me tht they hadn't brought it round adn it had been 2 days. She presumed it was more the done thing for them to bring it round
I soon put her right.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 03/10/2007 19:06

Oh, I'm not all hot and bothered, it's no effort at all to leave it in my hall.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 03/10/2007 19:07

I'm always on tender hooks if I know a neighbour has a parcel, trying to judge whether they're in, whether they've only just got in, whether they may be eating...

OP posts:
iota · 03/10/2007 19:10

stop moaning - it's your civic duty as a SAHM to take in other people's parcels.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 03/10/2007 19:12

I just can't be ar$ed to take it across. How long do you think I can keep it for before I have to go?

OP posts:
iota · 03/10/2007 19:17

just open it and keep the stuff if it's any good.

Deny all knowledge when they come over for it

FLIER · 03/10/2007 19:20

if you're not bothered about it being in your hall, i would keep it until they come for it then. but then again, you don't know if they know that you have it.........YABU

WideWebWitch · 03/10/2007 19:21

Can you ring them and say 'I have a parcel, come and get it please' ?

And then refuse delivery next time if it pisses you off.

clandestine · 03/10/2007 19:23

LOL - I am the opposite to you - I feel incredibly rude if I haven't taken the parcel round to them the minute I can tell that they are home!

Having said that, the posties round here are crapola and getting a card to tell you it has come is pretty rare - so you are almost reliant on the person receiving it bringing it round.

WitnessProtectionCod · 03/10/2007 19:24

i always take it tbh

iota · 03/10/2007 19:26

I had to get a parcel from several houses away, down the street.

It was 4 cases of wine.

I was about 9 months pregnant.

The very nice man who had taken the parcels in carried them round to my house

now that's what I call neighbourliness

peskipixie · 03/10/2007 19:30

wait til you know they are out, then leave a card saying you have it but they were out when you brought it round

Minum · 03/10/2007 19:53

In our street people always bring parcels round when they've taken them in. I'm rarely in, so dont have the chance to take in other peoples, but they take mine in all the time. Mind you, its a really nice street I live in.

lizziemun · 03/10/2007 19:59

I think it depends on the neighbour.

For example i took in a parcel for a neighbour at the beginning of the summer holiday only to find they had gone away for the summer. I will not be taking in a parcel for them again.

But on the other hand i took in a parcel for another neighbour last wednesday knowing that it wouldn't be picked up until friday afternoon at the earlisy as he is in the army and only comes back most weekends and his wife doesn't always come back during the week. As i know this it didn't bother me having the parcel in our hallway as they are always gratefull.

covenhope · 03/10/2007 20:15

A couple of years ago we had parcels for next door every day. They were never in when the parcels arrived and never came to claim them. After 2 weeks of it I refused to take in the next one. [victor meldrew emoticon] That stopped it!

bookwormtailmum · 03/10/2007 20:20

Our next door neighbour often takes in parcels for me - she sent her son (aged about 7.5) around once, staggering under my rather large Amazon package.
