To not go for Sunday dinner

Well tea, given the time.

I'm due to go at 5pm which I was looking forward to initially but as the day has gone on and the kids have been consistently playing up my mild headache has got progressively worse and my TMD is flaring up.

I'm stressed, overwhelmed and really can't muster the motivation to mess around getting two busses there and back (OH takes the car to work)

Downside is they will be very disappointed.

YABU - suck it up and go
YANBU - stay home

If anyone is a single adult then they can form a bubble + one other household. That's within the rules.

I think I'd get a taxi...in bigger towns they should have some space carseats.

Ginfordinner · 16/08/2020 16:24

What painkillers have you taken?

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/08/2020 16:25

I have sudden flares of asthma or back pain or anxiety so Im understanding when others do too.
Its disappointing but can't be helped.

UZWS · 16/08/2020 16:29

At the bus stop now, luckily I have one opposite my house.

I've taken baclofen and ibuprofen for my TMD. I haven't got anything for the "being overwhelmed" though Blush

Poor mental health means things like this become a drama when they really needn't be. Grrr.

Well done for getting out of the house. Would your mum and aunt let you lie down for an hour whilst they entertain the kids once you're there?

MrsKeats · 16/08/2020 16:33

OP never do anything you don't really want to
What a ridiculous comment. So therefore I can stop writing work reports/cleaning the house etc etc?
Sometimes in life we do things for other people.

AryaStarkWolf · 16/08/2020 16:36

I wouldn't gonif you're not will, of course cancelling isnt ideal but if you're sick, youre sick

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 16:43

have you got exercises for the TMD?

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 16/08/2020 16:48

As you've decided to go OP... and taken pain killers. It might not be so bad, It gets the kids out of the house and a change of scene often makes them calm down a bit.
Maybe you could have a lie down whilst your mum and aunt fuss over the kids and eat a bit , later on when you feel better. That's what I would do
If you are feeling very unwell, it might be good that they are there to help you
Maybe your DM might give you a lift home? I hope it works out for you.

TorgosPizza · 16/08/2020 16:54

In future, I'd remember that even if they're disappointed not to see you, your family should want you to prioritise your own well-being.

If it's more a matter of just needing a push to get past some anxiety, that's a bit different, of course. Sometimes it's worth jumping a hurdle to remind yourself that you can do it.

I'm sure you'll manage this time, but honestly, I'd much rather my family cancelled at the last minute than come in pain, if they'd be more comfortable at home.

randomer · 16/08/2020 16:57

This is going to sound daft but try some deep breathing or Headspace. You have done the decent thing. Could you lessen your worries by telling them you don't feel so great?

Justjoshin22 · 16/08/2020 17:13

Hope you manage to enjoy it OP, sometimes you feel better for managing to get out to these sorts of things even if you don’t initially feel like it. Take advantage of being cooked for and agree with others - get a taxi back if you possibly can.

viques · 16/08/2020 17:24

Another one saying get a cab. They won't be in car seats on the buses either.

UZWS · 16/08/2020 17:28

I'm almost there now, still feeling crap but glad I pushed myself. Looking forward to a nice lamb dinner Smile

Thank you for the proverbial kick up the backside.

I do have exercises for the TMD and see an osteopath regularly but neither help much I'm afraid. It's both muscular and down to a disc issue, so double whammy for me.

I'll look into mindfulness!

Well done for getting out. You would have no doubt felt worse had you not have gone. Letting people down/ not getting out the house etc.

Also, may I ask what TMD stands for? Not something I've come across before

Pomegranatemolasses · 16/08/2020 17:31

Well done for going, you'd probably feel even more stressed if you'd cancelled.

UZWS · 16/08/2020 17:34

TMD stands for tempromandibular dysfunction also known as TMJD.

It's a chronic condition that affects the jaw or in my case my jaw, my head and my neck. I get migraines, vertigo, tinnitus and facial pain.

It's a bugger because it's difficult to treat and often once you have it you have it for life.

HolyForkinShirt · 16/08/2020 17:40

Thank you op. That sounds awful. I understand why you feel like staying in! Hope you feel better now you are out and painkillers have kicked in

TatianaBis · 16/08/2020 18:03

Change your osteopath if it’s not helping. Have you tried a cranial osteopath?

Do you grind your teeth?

category12 · 16/08/2020 18:05

Well done on going even though you didn't feel up to it. Star

randomer · 16/08/2020 18:20

I got a mouth guard from the dentist, its not pleasant but it helps.

jessstan2 · 16/08/2020 18:35

I feel sorry for you, fellow TMJD sufferer here.

You won't have to get two 'buses home I hope.

UZWS · 16/08/2020 18:52

My DM is going to take us home.

Dinner was really nice and my offer to wash up was turned down so I can put my feet up for a bit, bless them.

Sorry to hear others here have TMD, it's bloody awful isn't it.

I've had a mouth guard for a little over a year now and it hasn't helped much if at all. I'll probably end up having wash out surgery which was mentioned by Oral Surgery when I was seen there a few months ago, I'm a bit apprehensive about anything invasive though.

I've heard botox is good for the muscular aspect but it wouldn't do much for my disc issue.

Lilgreen · 16/08/2020 19:08

That’s nice op. Glad you’ve had a nice time and got to put your feet up.Hope you get some relief soon.
