Where to shop as 33 year old?!

This summer has been a disaster, wardrobe wise.

I literally couldn’t find one nice thing to buy.

I’m a 33 year old married mum of two. Relatively slim and attractive. Very average dress sense.

No matter where I went, I found things were either clearly aimed at size 6 young 20 somethings, or were hideously mumsy and old Confused

Where am I going wrong? I don’t want to dress older than I am not look deluded about my age 😂

Where ever the fuck you like.

Just because you're in your 30s doesn't mean you need to start dressing in a particular way or be incredibly sensible and 'age-appropriate'.

Pop in everywhere and if you see something you like, just get it. Who cares if its a bit 'young' or a bit 'old' for you? If you like it, wear it.

Life's too short.

StrawberrySquash · 16/08/2020 14:34

My local Oasis has closed down weeps

PerpetuallyUnderwhelmed · 16/08/2020 14:42

Go for less at higher price point if you can - Sézane, whistles, cos, The Outnet

Probably Zara for lower price point but the quality is shocking sometimes. You can get away with very good basics from M&S too. TopShop for jeans.

workhomesleeprepeat · 16/08/2020 14:45

COS, & other stories, Arket, Uniqlo - I buy a lot of second hand. I'm 33.

To be honest though it sounds like you don't know what you want to wear? What is your personal style?

MobLife · 16/08/2020 15:24

Love the And/Or range at John Lewis, and Kin too
Otherwise H&M, the odd thing from Mint Velvet, and Hush
Always find nice bits in Zara and Oliver Bonas too

Tend to steer well clear of the likes of Boden, Fat Face, Whitestuff, and to be honest if you're slim then the clothes aren't cut to fit a slim frame anyway

Heidi1976 · 16/08/2020 16:54

I'm in my 40s but definitely don't consider myself old and Mumsy yet so I understand your frustration!

I like stuff from:
ASOS
Wolf & Badger
Tk Maxx
H&M
Reserved
Miss Selfridge
Dorothy Perkins
Sugarhill Brighton
Mango
Zara
Topshop

Scruffyoak · 16/08/2020 16:56

I am 33. Joules makes me feel frumpy. I like River Island, next but usually ebay!

Quackersandcheese3 · 16/08/2020 17:07

I know the feeling. I’m following for inspiration.

Kenworthington · 16/08/2020 17:08

Where should you shop at 33? Anywhere you like, you’re young!

Glamazoni · 16/08/2020 17:09

I’ve had some nice things from Kemi Telford. I buy basics from H&M. Wolf and Moon has lovely jewellery.

MeredithGreysScalpel · 16/08/2020 17:10

I’m in my 30s and over the course of lockdown have ordered clothes from: Dorothy Perkins, Peacocks, New Look, Shein and Karen Millen. Have also been eying up TU at Sainsbury’s and ASOS for some bits and pieces. Suppose it depends on your budget - mine is low!

Glitteryone · 16/08/2020 17:11

I’m also 33 and I shop at the likes of Primark, New Look, River Island, Pretty Little Thing & Bohoo

I pick up the odd thing also at Tesco & Asda.

Reader1984 · 16/08/2020 17:11

Try Boden?

ILoveTeeeeeea · 16/08/2020 17:28

I’m in the same boat, although my preferences would be:

Whistles
ME+EM
Scamp and Dude for lockdown gear
Warehouse (not sure what this will be like since it’s been taken over)
Vero Moda
J.Crew
Selected Femme
Scotch & Soda
By Malene Birger
Samsøe & Samsøe
Sissy Boy
& Other Stories
Zara
Massimo Dutti
Oliver Bonas

Some of these are pricy so need to catch the sales or go on Zalando - my ‘go to’ for online shopping most of the time

Rach000 · 16/08/2020 17:29

I am about the same age with 2 children. I cant justify spending too much so usually shop at sainsbury's which usually has some nice things in and pretty good quality. Also like next and doro

Rach000 · 16/08/2020 17:31

Oopse posted too soon. Meant and dorothy perkins! My town doesn't have a lot of shops so not loads of choice if I want to try on. As dont always have time to go further.

SummerInSun · 16/08/2020 17:33

Hobbs and Jigsaw for work clothes. Uniqlo, Fat Face and Seasalt for casual.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 16/08/2020 17:49

Anywhere you want to. I'm in my 50's and pre-covid used to buy clothes from the same places as my 28 year old DD. As long as it makes you feel good buy what you want where you want.

SickOfNorthernExile · 16/08/2020 17:53

ASOS, H&M, Next and M&S for basics or fast fashion
Cos, Reiss, All Saints, Mint Velvet, Free People, Whistles if I want something I can spend a bit more on and I expect to last
UNO De50 for jewellery if I want something proper. Oliver bonas if i want something for a particular outfit.
Hobbs for coats
Clarks (but only their Goretex ones) or Timbaland for winter boots

I also look on eBay for stuff from all of those shops every so often, just in case.

Weirdly Debenhams do some good very fashun collabs eg with Preen for quirky dresses and skirts

For Vintage I only shop IRL.

SickOfNorthernExile · 16/08/2020 17:55

Oh I’ve had nice stuff from Iris and Ink, Storm and Marie, and other Scandi- type labels. Worth looking on ASOS sale or the outnet for high end at cut down prices.

TK Maxx good for high end knit wear

PaintYourSpiritGold · 16/08/2020 17:56

Joules all the way 😊

LaLaLanded · 16/08/2020 18:20

I’m 32 and in the same boat - I don’t want to dress like a teenager but still want to dress youthfully!

Samsøe & Samsøe
Hvisk (nice bags)
Cos
Coster Copenhagen
& Other Stories
Ninety Percent

So yes Scandi-type stuff. I mostly shop in three boutiques near my house now - can’t face trawling round the shops proper, any more

IWantToBeAFairy · 16/08/2020 19:24

I agree with this. Where whatever makes you feel nice! I'm 35 and I remember going through the stage that you're at now, I got over it though and now wear whatever makes me feel happy and comfortable
LioneIRichTea · 16/08/2020 19:45

waves Just joining this thread for inspiration (thanks OP) Im late 30s and have worn the same style of clothes for the last decade! I’m more stylish (?) in the Autumn/Winter but Spring/Summer it’s skinny or straight leg jeans a neutral cami or tee or midi skirt/culottes and the same. All with my Birkenstock’s or Converse. Smart leather sandals if Im feeling fancy BlushGrin I’m in such a rut!

PervyMuskrat · 16/08/2020 19:47
