AIBU to burn this monstrosity!?

DP insists that there is nothing wrong with this once gleaming white towel. Even strong bleach won't save it. He also puts the milk in first when he makes a cup of tea so maybe it's a dp problem 🤔🤣.

Use it for the dog/car/ or cut it up for rags.
Or dye it a darker colour for use in the paddling pool / garden/ beach

BlueJava · 16/08/2020 14:59

Don't burn it - dog towel or floor cloth!

adulthumanwoman · 16/08/2020 15:03

Just wash it in a hot wash with bleach - I've had much worse! (I'm a farmer)

Shizzlestix · 16/08/2020 15:04

Dog towel. Perfect.

TorgosPizza · 16/08/2020 17:10

This is why we never buy white towels...

If it's washed with bleach, it should be clean, but it just looks disgusting. I'd replace it and start using it as a dog towel.

Branleuse · 16/08/2020 17:20

cant you dye it with dylon?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 16/08/2020 17:23

@washinglinefauxpas

I should caveat what I'm saying by acknowledging I will be in the minority, but I agree with your DH.

OK, the towel looks disgusting, but it's just stained, it doesn't mean it's not clean and perfectly usable as a towel. If he's happy to use it, I say let him. The habit of throwing things away just because they don't look their best is crap for the environment.

Right, speech over. Sorry everyone. Agree with you on the milk in tea thing though, he's definitely in the wrong on that one!

Agree with this.
SignOnTheWindow · 16/08/2020 17:40

If you live anywhere near Reading, I'll take it off your hands...

NotImpossible · 16/08/2020 17:44

It's a perfectly usable towel. And cotton is so damaging to the environment. I'd keep and use it, no problem.

NotImpossible · 16/08/2020 17:46

I'm with you about the milk though!

Sh05 · 16/08/2020 17:49

What is the Dylon pot that everyone is talking about please. DH has need using a light blue towel to dry his hair after colouring. The centre of it is now a light hungry green!

Sh05 · 16/08/2020 17:50

Gungey not hungry!😀

DanielRicciardosSmile · 16/08/2020 17:51

I wouldn't take it away or to the swimming pool, but as long as its just discoloured and not dirty I wouldn't have a problem using the towel at home.

viques · 16/08/2020 17:54

Can you not embroider you OHs name on the towel. It would make a lovely gift. And no one at the gym, pool, club , beach would ever be tempted to walk off with it.

Arthersleep · 16/08/2020 18:01

You need concentrated bleach tablets!! A couple in the wash and it will come out just fine.

Arthersleep · 16/08/2020 18:02

Oh yes and you can get a Dylon colour stripper that removes dye. It also gets things really white. Then add a couple of drops of vinegar to the wash to leave it fluffy and spa like.

Smallsteps88 · 16/08/2020 18:05

Ooh that looks like a challenge to me. I’d be giving it my all to return that to its former glory.

SirGawain · 16/08/2020 18:18

@TreestumpsAndTrampolines

It's a big towel, and probably just at that comfortably worn in stage, so I can see why he might be reluctant to let it go.....

Milk first if teapot tea, last if bag in mug tea. cos it definitely tastes different.

You do not make tea in anything other than a teapot. Putting a teabag in a mug is disgustingly common.Shock
GotOutOfBedOnTheWrongSide · 16/08/2020 18:20

Agree with PP use ace for whites on a hot wash. It will be good as good as new. You could always soak it in some ace before hand as well.

GotOutOfBedOnTheWrongSide · 16/08/2020 18:21

Sorry PP recommended astonish Blush Ace is just a good though so either would do a good job.

Vodkacranberryplease · 16/08/2020 18:27

Just cut it up by accident. Problem solved!

Mistymonday · 16/08/2020 18:28

Dylon it and you have a new towel! Or for the dogs, floor rags.

Milk first if you are making it in a tea pot but tea bag first if you are making it in a mug. If you add the milk when the tea bag is in the mug or put the milk in before the tea bag then it stops brewing. Mumsnet told me this so it must be true.
EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 16/08/2020 19:12

Make tea in a teapot, let it brew for five minutes, add milk to teapot.
Saves using a milk jug, or taking milk with me for my second cup Grin.

I learnt the other day that you should only bleach towels after they've been washed; the bleach will react with the protein on a dirty towel. Worked fine for my previously slightly grungy towel.

Drink it from the spout then you have one less thing to wash up Grin
