To expect the dog who attacked my dog not to be brought near my home

I currently have a very injured dog; stitches, blood seeping round my house and I’m looking at three month recovery after he was attacked by another dog. The attack happened in a communal area of the road we both live on and my dog was on a lead, the other dog wasn’t. The owner came to speak to us about it today and brought the dog with him because “he was walking him anyway”. I’m absolutely fuming. I never want to see this dog again and while I know that’s unrealistic I didn’t want him brought to my house either. My dog is in agony and it has devastated my whole family. AIBU to expect a bit of decency and to not bring the dog when the owner is coming to see us? Is it not just the respectful thing to do as a dog owner who knows the pain their dog has caused (I don’t blame the dog btw, I blame the irresponsible owner)?

I'd report it tbh. He doesn't sound like he's learned anything so the dog will attack again. What did he say about how he'll prevent it in future. Is he paying your vet bill?

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 15/08/2020 14:12

Def report. To the police and the local council..

BMW6 · 15/08/2020 14:21

Surely you have reported the out of control dog owners to Police??

Are the owners going to pay your vet bill? Are they going to keep the dog on a lead henceforth? Do they accept responsibility?

My dog was attacked (on lead) by a dog (off lead). The owners PTS the same day (it had attacked before apparently)

BMW6 · 15/08/2020 14:23

Oh and if "blood is seeping round your house" surely the dog needs to go back to vet as not stitched correctly or dressing not sufficient?

MoreListeningLessChatting · 15/08/2020 14:37

Report it.

The next dog (or child) it attacks may die

Why did you not have a go at him and tell him a few home truths and also tell him to keep his dog away from yours in communal areas. You also need to tell him he needs to muzzle him and buy him a harness that says he is unfriendly, he also needs to be kept on a lead at all times unless in a locked area I'd knock on his door and tell him this and say if he doesn't do this you will have to report it to the Rspca and this police. ( I have done this myself). X

It was reported immediately after my dog was treated. I have children would never risk this happening to someone else. My heart is in pieces seeing the pain my dog is in. Blood seeping is normal after the surgery he’s had and the wounds he’s got, he’s on medication and is at the Vets every couple of days being checked. There’s no dressing either, apparently they heal better and quicker this way so my floor is covered in training pads.
But I don’t want to see this dog, it makes me so angry. He needs to be looked after and leaving him off lead is not the way.

Has he been charged/cautioned, etc? Are you getting updates on the compliant?

He shouldn't have brought the dog round to see you.

Pinkchocolate · 15/08/2020 15:01

My partner and a few other dog owners and parents on my road told him he needs to keep the dog on the lead and how worried everyone is for their children/pets. He’s adamant he wouldn’t do it again and it was a one off but I don’t believe anyone can ever make that statement. It’s BS.
I didn’t think of reporting to RSPCA. Would you still do that even if police are dealing with it or should I wait and see what the outcome is?

I am so sorry for you and your poor dog (and also for the dog that attacked him - being let down by a bad owner). I don't think the RSPCA would do anything but please tell your local dog warden because they will often get involved in this sort of situation and go and talk to the dog-owner about control of his dog in the future. I can't think that would affect whatever the police are planning to do about the matter but maybe there is a police officer on here who can clarify that.

@mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork thank you x It really is so sad to see him in such pain.
