All those selfish people queuing to come back early from their holidays so they don't have to quarantine and instead go back to work to infect us all .... well thanks a bunch !! ...

Considering most of them are probably really upset at missing part of their holiday I don't think they are being selfish are they? Mostly they will be returning because they can't afford to take an extra two weeks off work . Depending on where in France they are holidaying and where in the UK they live they are no more likely to have come in contact with the virus there than here .

AlwaysLatte · 14/08/2020 22:57

On the other hand if they didn't care about socially distancing and weren't going to follow rules about this they'd just come home when they wanted to and not bother to quarantine. At least this keenness to get home suggests they are trying to follow the rules.

TorgosPizza · 14/08/2020 23:02

I suppose there has to be a starting point, but often these things do seem arbitrary. Government at its finest.

@DimidDavilby

I went to France, and then I licked your supermarket. You're welcome.

Let’s wait and see what the infection rate is after this.
I hope that it has no impact.

Burnthurst187 · 14/08/2020 23:12

Anybody that leaves the country for a holiday in the middle of a pandemic has to accept that rules and regulations can change very fast. This is a risk that they have decided is worth taking

Do I have any sympathy for them, no. It was their choice and now they have to deal with it

ineedaholidaynow · 14/08/2020 23:15

There is always going to be risks when going on holiday during a pandemic, people should have been ready for this to happen

Illegitiminoncarborundum · 14/08/2020 23:16

I'm sure there is a number you can call when you're feeling this, well, bizarre.

eaglejulesk · 14/08/2020 23:26

Not everyone is selfish. I worked back in March to cover a woman who returned from Australia (I'm in NZ) the day before quarantine started, but she and her husband quarantined anyway.

It is only expected when this current load of shite government gave them about 10 minutes notice
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 14/08/2020 23:56

@isabellerossignol

No, they didn't have to go. But when they went, the advice was that it was ok to go. So they went. They didn't do anything wrong in going, they didn't break any rules.
This

And they are still following the rules

SodomyNonSapiens · 15/08/2020 00:18

You are being very very unreasonable. You are as likely to have it as they are.

Cases in all European Countries are low. Most are lower than the uk and I don't even know anyone who has had it - that is just emphasising it's rarity not it's severity. Most or at least many in France and Spain are the same. The chance of anyone contracting it here or anywhere in Europe are very very low. It certainly will be no more risky this week than it was last week.

Exactly. I went to Spain (low infection area) and now am taking my medicine and quarantining. I made the choice and judged the risks.

For those saying rates are higher here, they're not, they have been much lower than Spain and France in recent weeks.

The Spanish spikes were driven by nightclubs being opened and the Spanish are pretty angry about it as it is ruining their economy even further.

Movinghouseatlast · 15/08/2020 09:04

People are being horrible here!

It is the government's fault, it should be an immediate.

doityourselfnow · 15/08/2020 09:11

@spudlike1 yes people will make their own decisions, some of which you won't like... get over it!

Hmmm I not convinced they'll infect us all? Are you prone to ridiculously high drama?

romeolovedjulliet · 15/08/2020 09:46

some tosser on the bbc news papers said they had to travel back to the uk via an 'unfashionable route' [i guess a ferry heaven forbid] to avoid the quarantine [they are key workers].let's see, you got back just in time, would it have mattered if you'd swam it ? what a complete dick.

Must admit I did raise an eyebrow and think did arriving in UK at 3am make your less infectious than at 4am Grin

But realistically there needs to be a cut off and on the flip side these people have made the effort to return and work and not moan about wanting paid isolation.

We never know - perhaps they work in jobs where we'll be grateful they are working and not sat at home!

Weebitawks · 15/08/2020 10:50

Oh for god's sake. People were told they could go so they went. Now they're being told they need to get back or isolate, so they're coming back.

A lot of people are facing unemployment and the job market isn't exactly secure at the moment. People might be worried that coming back from annual leave with a cheery announcement they need to isolate for 2 weeks might not put them in the best stead for any upcoming redundancies.

Pasghetti · 15/08/2020 10:56

Everyone had to make a choice. This was not a summer to be travelling overseas.
