I keep hearing about people coming back from Spain or wherever and not quarantining for 14 days. I thought that there could be random checks and if you were caught out, there was a big fine. Or did I dream this?

There’s lots of Dominic Cummings type things on that list of exceptions, like ‘In an emergency’

JacobReesMogadishu · 15/08/2020 19:59

Even if they came round and did a spot check and didn’t answer the door you could say you were asleep. Half of MN refuse to answer the door unless they’re expecting someone.

JacobReesMogadishu · 15/08/2020 20:01

That list is interesting....bbc news definitely said people would have to have groceries brought to them. I guess the list does say you can only go out for food if you can’t get it brought to you.

Delatron · 15/08/2020 20:02

I’m pretty sure in England, you can’t go to the supermarket for food? That link doesn’t prove otherwise?

Delatron · 15/08/2020 20:03

Well it’s the same as ‘if you can’t get your dog walked by anyone else then fine to take your dog for a walk’.
How confusing? So if I’m at the supermarket and then taking my dog for a walk and someone knocks on my door do I get a fine?

ListeningQuietly · 15/08/2020 20:05

delatron
you need access to basic necessities like food and medicines, but only in exceptional circumstances such as where you cannot arrange for these to be delivered
That means you can go to the shop
after
getting home from the airport by public transport Hmm

Bathroom12345 · 15/08/2020 20:07

So you come back from France with little notice and you cannot get an online delivery. Just looked at Waitrose and there are no delivery slots up to 30 August. Apparently you need to check back every day or starve!

Bathroom12345 · 15/08/2020 20:09

Anyone who come back to living in the same house doesn’t need to quarantine. I do understand why they have done it like this but honestly it’s a mess. A friend got a call and she was told that they would prefer her not to go out for food but it was allowed if she couldn’t get a slot.

nether · 15/08/2020 20:13

RSPCA and others published info on how to keep your dog healthy and stimulated without outdoors walks. So anything beyond the immediate outside of your property (if you have no garden) could still land you in trouble.

In terms of accessing just about everything else, put a shout out to,those who were shielding - we lived with this level of restriction for over three months, so can probably help you get through 14 days

LightAsTheBreeze · 15/08/2020 20:15

So slots will be harder to get now as all these quarentees will want them, it was getting a bit easier to get one recently

ListeningQuietly · 15/08/2020 20:16

Bilge

Early shielding was a bit like this. There are still voluntary organisations to help those isolating if you really have no-one who will go to the shops for you.

Bathroom12345 · 15/08/2020 20:21

People do tend to ‘book’ slots just to get the slot. If I am honest I would go to my local small M and S food, get what I needed quickly and come straight home, yes, I could break down, have an accident but honestly this sounds completely unenforceable and surely if they throw resource at this this is the wrong priority.

ListeningQuietly · 15/08/2020 20:21

Or you go to the shop
aftercatching public transport back from Stanstead to Reading Hmm

Bathroom12345 · 15/08/2020 20:23

But protests in London, illegal raves, large family gatherings etc are given the blind eye?

nether · 15/08/2020 20:23

I think your view is misplaced.

If you really cannot find anyone else to walk your dog, then a very brief toilet outing will be needed. But with RSPCA advising that dogs can be perfectly healthy and happy without walks during isolation, do not write off the potentail for sanction if you kick the arse out if it as bilge

LightAsTheBreeze · 15/08/2020 20:27

They are obviously relying on people fearing getting a fine but if you are rich you are not going to care about that anyway, you only have to look at all the partying footballers.

Bathroom12345 · 15/08/2020 20:28

I work at home. If someone called me I could be on an hour’s conference call, or asleep, or my phone has run out of charge etc.

If someone went out say to the supermarket wouldn’t you leave your phone behind or switch it off so that they couldn’t track you?

Supermarket trips seems to be unclear, I guess people could extend that to say a Macdonalds as they didn’t want to cook!

sakura06 · 15/08/2020 20:29

Day 9 of quarantine here. The border force checked our forms thoroughly. Not had any other checks yet, but to be honest we're quite happy to stay at home. Thankfully one of us is a teacher and one can WFH.

fartyface · 15/08/2020 20:35

Loads of slots on morrisons. We booked one yesterday morning just after the France news broke. We are in France prepping for our quarentine.
Scaremongering about online deliveries.
This place is mad these days.

Splodgetastic · 15/08/2020 20:45

One of my friends just came back from Spain and was visited by the Border Force. They installed some cameras in her house (at the door) to make sure that she doesn’t leave during the 14-day quarantine period. Believe me, the government is taking this as seriously as they take everything else.

Take that how you will.

Bathroom12345 · 15/08/2020 20:53

Splodge. I am not sure I believe that at all!

Yeah, right. It's not house arrest Hmm.

Or try other places. Asda Tesco Morrisons and Iceland are all showing slots avsilable every single day- tomorrow included

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 15/08/2020 21:04

@Splodgetastic There’s no way that can be true! Installing cameras in her house, just because she came back from Spain 😂
