In all the Scottish schools I worked on (8 I think) only ever the P1s really wore blazers.

londonscalling · 13/08/2020 05:20

I wonder if twins who start reception class will end up playing together or whether they separate slightly and make their own friends?

KitKatastrophe · 13/08/2020 05:23

@BogRollBOGOF

I knew two sets of twins at school who were born on the same day.

My tutor group had 2.5 sets of twins. Two complete pairs and one of a seperated pair.

I like that you clarified the .5 set of twins. Glad it wasnt one twin"s legs and the other's torso Grin

Depends on the kids. Mine always had their own friends, even when in the same class, as they’re very very different characters
crikeycrumbsblimey · 13/08/2020 06:20

village school, 1 form entry and there was 5 sets of twins in one class. Slow news day....

Howcanwehelp · 13/08/2020 06:40

Not sure of the odds but 5 mums met fir a drink last week, three with non identical twins. Not made friends through the twin connection.
I do think having twins is more common. In my year of 100 ish at secondary school we had one set of identical twins and one set of none identical.

BikeRunSki · 13/08/2020 06:44

From the article Provost Martin Brennan said: "I am constantly surprised at the high number of twins we have heading for primary school every year.

"It often runs into double-figures.

It’s not really news then is it?

PaundryLouder · 13/08/2020 06:46

My Scottish kids wear polo shirts (school colour, optional logo), black jogging bottoms & trainers as their "uniform" (primary school) - I kind of love the look of the uniforms in the photo but it must be uncomfy for them & quite expensive? DC at my kids' school can wear most of their stuff in and out of school (just change the t shirt) so that makes it much more affordable.

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 13/08/2020 07:18

The little girls with the navy bows in their hair remind me of 'The Shining' 😆

Winterwoollies · 13/08/2020 07:21

I think this is a lovely little story and their tiny uniforms are lovely. My school had us in proper uniforms from four.

Cheer up!

Blackbear19 · 13/08/2020 07:24

PaundryLouder can I ask where you are? I've never known a primary to have jogging bottoms as part of uniform other than as an option for gym.

The schools in Lanarkshire all seem to be formal trousers / shirt & tie or polo option.

Porridgeoat · 13/08/2020 07:34

What silly uniforms. Dressed as little adults when really they should be ready for play and action wearing jogging bottoms, trainers, sweaters

Porridgeoat · 13/08/2020 07:39

I see paundry has similar ideas on uniform. Personally I feel that children should be embracing and ingraining movement, play and fitness throughout their school years and wearing appropriate clothes to enable this.

HavelockVetinari · 13/08/2020 07:48

Inverclyde has twice the average incidence of twins, and has had for many years, hence the traditional photo. I wonder what causes it! Some kind of ovulation-stimulating hormone in the water supply?

Enko · 13/08/2020 07:49

Living in SE I find the school uniforms bog standard issue. My children have worn a mixture of Sweatshirt's (1 school primary) blazer + Knitted jumper (1 primary ) Secondary Jumper (1 secondary) shirt tie and Blazer (1 secondary) and Knitted jumper + blazer (2 secondary) near to where we live
out of the 5 local schools 2 uses blazers (1 a tartan dress and blazer) 2 uses knitted jumpers and 1 sweat shirts. 2 of them have a gingham summer shirt for the boys short sleeved I love seeing the boys in those makes me smile.

SockYarn · 13/08/2020 07:54

The uniforms are VERY formal! Our Scottish primary school has a blazer option, nobody wears it. In fact I think there is just one Age 5 blazer which has been passed around for decades, everyone uses it for the first day photos then it's back to the sweatshirts and polo shirts.

DS had two sets of twins in his P1 class, identical girls and non-identical boys.

So did my tutor group. I was one of them.
IamMaz · 13/08/2020 07:57

There's more twins and multiple births these days because of IVF etc.

JacobReesMogadishu · 13/08/2020 08:09

I thought from the tile you meant the education authority had split the twins up and sent each kid in each pair to a different school from their twin. Now, that would have been a story!

Frazzled2207 · 13/08/2020 08:17

Off topic but is referring simply a case of just asking or do you need to be able to prove that your child is not ready etc. And does it cause issues with sports teams further down the line because some kids are not the right age?
I’m in England and seriously wanted to defer my son who was born late August. But my authority wasn’t willing at all.

herecomesthsun · 13/08/2020 08:22

cute photo opportunities I guess!

Deferring?

Cut off is end of February for going to school. If your child was 4 in January or February this year then you just tick a box. No questions asked, another funded year at pre-school. This is really a very normal thing to do and raises no eyebrows whatsoever.

if your child is born in the autumn term then you can still defer, but there's more wrangling with local Authorities over whether they'll fund another year at preschool. Most Oct/Nov birthdays do go to school just before they are 5, december's more of a grey area.

It doesn't cause any issues with sports teams at all. It's just very normal and routine and seeing other parts of the UK tying themselves in knots about sports teams and how some children might be a lot older is very weird. My oldest's birthday is the first week of March, he started school at 5.5 the following August. His class had deferred children a couple of months older than him, non-deferred children a whole year younger, give a week.

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/08/2020 09:53

It can but usually the other way around and in high school rather than primary. My nephew is a footballer to a reasonable youth level but not high enough to be banned from playing for school, he was an undeferred Jan birthday and couldn't play with his own year due to Football association restrictions. He has to play with the year below which meant he couldn't represent school until he was in S2.

Sonewhere rural and quite far north! Not sure if it's all primaries here or just the one my kids go to.
CecilyP · 13/08/2020 10:33

Here jogging bottoms generally aren’t part of the uniform as a such but rather the uniform is school polo shirt sweatshirt and the bottom half can be anything.
