Dobuy
or Dewbuy?

We've been watching the programme about the QE2 hotel and one presenter says Dobuy and the other Dewbuy. Aside from one of them being intensely irritating because it's wrong we are now wondering if we have been saying it wrong all this time!

@Ohtherewearethen, I shall call it Donut in future in your honour. Grin

I used to live there and loathed it to the point where I quit my job and got on a flight to London with a couple of hundred pounds, so I probably would have had better fun in Donut.

VainAbigail · 12/08/2020 19:20

Due-bye

Never been though.

funkyblackbird · 12/08/2020 19:21

@Addler

I used to work for the ruling family and they say 'Doo-bye', but with a slightly different accent. Certainly not 'dew' or 'bay'
If I were to speak more slowly and correctly I'd say Donut rather than Dewbuy. Grin

Addler Have you seen the 'what is a stealth boost' thread Grin

Ooh did you know Pete the pilot?
MadisonAvenue · 12/08/2020 19:22

Do buy

Banana0pancakes · 12/08/2020 19:24

Doobuy but I heard on an advert it was pronounced doobay.

Girlyracer · 12/08/2020 19:27

Jewbye.

But then again I say Jewvay (for duvet) Grin

Addler · 12/08/2020 19:27

@funkyblackbird Grin I was but merely staff, and had my fair share of trying to stuff myself between a rubbish bin and a wall so as to be as inconspicuous as possible.

Addler · 12/08/2020 19:29

@StCharlotte The only time I ever saw one of the pilots was when a phone got dropped down a seat and he came out to try and get it out for us, no idea what his name was though

Ohtherewearethen · 12/08/2020 19:29

Yes @Knocka! Love it! 😁

Fink · 12/08/2020 19:39

It's not much of a stealth boast. My BIL used to work for the ruling family too, I think they probably have several hundred people working for them at a time, and with the turnover it'll run into the thousands of people who used to. It's only the equivalent of saying 'I used to work for the Natural History Museum.'

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/08/2020 19:41

Duh bye

Clumsyduck · 12/08/2020 19:43

Duh ( very short Sound like the d in dog ) bye

That will prob just be my accent tho we say a lot of stuff weird I think

Knocka · 12/08/2020 19:43

@Addler, were you working at Zabeel?

Lizadork · 12/08/2020 19:48

Da-bye and might be saying it completely wrong Grin

Addler · 12/08/2020 19:50

@Knocka Yes, and Habab most of the time. Plus the UK when they'd come here.

JustMeAndMyTins · 12/08/2020 20:49

Late to the party but doo-bye.

Arrivederla · 12/08/2020 21:03
