Gallbladder Removal - Anyone had this done?

Posted here so I can hopefully get more answers, I hope that's ok.
I just wanted to hear peoples experiences, I've searched a lot and can find a lot of horror stories about pain and constant diarrhoea for years after surgery. Is this normal? Is there anyone who had symptoms before but they went away after the surgery and didn't get worse?
I think mine is going to have to come out but I really don't want to live with years of diarrhoea. Sad

@MMH2021.

Could you work on losing enough weight that they will operate? I've had the op - twenty years ago, it's fine.

My brother had his out and hasn’t had any issues since. He had the op mid-morning and was home at 7pm. He was at the shops the next day buying proper butter and other things that he could have eaten when he had flare ups. I would say try to lose eight before the op (he lost 2 stone) as it decreases the risk of complications or them having to change from keyhole to full open surgery. He was at the upper end of a healthy bmi and reduced it.

I was a bit knocked out for a day or two and have been absolutely fine since - and I was in my 60s so probably older than OP.

I had mine out 8 years ago. Compared to the pain I'd had for years beforehand, the digestive issues are a minor inconvenience. I only need to smell bacon to need the loo 20 minutes later.

@gratitudee how did it all go in the end? Came across this post looking for positive stories as I am like you were, loose stools etc, due to have surgery next week and nervous about the horror stories

Hi, not sure if this is still helpful...i've just had mine removed following a few attacks of severe pain and the ultrasound picking up numerous stones. Ok so it was only yesterday and i can keep you updated but so far so good. I have two young children, one a baby and have been particularly nervous about the recovery and how i'll manage.

I was discharged same day and felt ok from waking from GA. Yes it is uncomfortable but compared to GS pain a breeze. Take pain relief every four hours, i was also given liquid morphine which does the job if it gets bad. I've been pottering about since i got home and i believe keeping moving helps with any trapped gas. Been holding baby and just keeping 3 year old at arms length for now bless him.

The incidions, 4 of them, are about an inch long. No dressings etc just keep relatively dry for few days

Hi OP, I had mine out in April (I had a thread on here too if you want to search). Best decision I ever made. Otherwise healthy mid 30s with young children and recovered quickly and easily. As a PP said, I can now eat anything with no problems, although I probably shouldn’t! Good luck Smile
