Norwich/Norfolk

Can anyone tell me what Norfolk is like to live in with a young family? (Single mum with a toddler). It's a potential spot that I'm thinking of moving to, specifically Norwich as I could relocate there very easily for work. Currently live in the midlands and would like a change.

Not sure if it's reasonable for me to move at the moment or even consider it, but on the two occasions I've been to Norwich I've loved it!

(Sorry, AIBU got traffic. Posted on travel and not sure how much response I'll get.)

Hi op,I don't live there but have stayed there many times for a lot of years and it's a beautiful city,I would be happy to live there.
The city centre has beautiful cathedral and churches to visit and lots of shops, there are a lot of things to do and the Norfolk beaches are stunning.
Have never had any issues when out in the evening.
I have no idea about schools or employment ,this is just a long term visitor's pov really but good luck I think it would be a great place to live.

I live in Norfolk & love it! The beaches are beautiful & you also have Norwich centre which has brilliant shopping and things to do.
I can’t comment on your employment but I would say sometimes wages seem to be slightly lower here in some fields.
Family life is lovely here and school obviously dependent on areas are good 😊

It's fantastic OP. I lived in Norwich for a long time (I'm a teacher so I know the areas that have good schools too). I don't live there now though sadly, but would move back in a heartbeat! I miss it terribly!

The city is gorgeous...very historic and beautiful, great shopping areas and amazing restaurants.

The coast and national park areas are breathtaking. There are pockets of quite serious deprivation though, so you need to choose carefully...if it looks 'too good to be true' in terms of cost, it probably is 🤷‍♀️

There's an area close to the city that's known as The Golden Triangle...so nice 😍(and expensive!) I didn't live there unfortunately 😂 but you can get a decent a less expensive property there occasionally.

As you move further out of the city, there are suburbs that consist of new build 'village-type' areas (Queens Hills in Costessey is a popular one, close to the city with a very good outstanding primary school). There are many others similar. Then further still you get actual villages like Wymondham (pronounced Windum), Attleborough, Dereham (a bigger village...more of a town actually!) Swaffham (a nice little market town, close to RAF Marham and Kings Lynn, nearer to the north east Norfolk coast). Lots more, but that's just a whistle stop tour for you 😂

It's good enough for the royal family to have a home in the county OP 🤷‍♀️

*north Norfolk coast that should have been!

Agree with PP. I grew up in Norfolk and went to school in Norwich, would move back if I could. The city is lovely, and you don't have to travel far to live somewhere with a more villagey/country feel. Lots around 10/20 minute drive to the city centre if you choose somewhere off the A47.
You've also got the beaches and the Broads which are great.
