No thought has been put into the fact that DC are on school holidays - AIBU

DC are off in school holidays after being stuck in for months before hand. There is very little for them to do. It's OK to shop till you drop with a mask on, but opening places for children to play and get some exercise....oh that's just too much.

I just logged on to book some cinema tickets to have something for my DC to do. There is one movie, opening at the end of August and it is a 13. There are millions of DC off school, not going on holiday, with nothing to do and they decide to put a violent, older movie on. They could have rehashed Frozen, Trolls, put on some other loved movie if there is nothing new, but no, they think we all want to see Tenet.

No one has put any thought into the fact that DC have been off for ages, are on holiday with nothing to do and are going round the bend. But shopping, that's ok. It is no wonder there are children in my town turning on others in the parks when they have nothing to do.

Shame on the lot of them.

Hang on, if they can turn on each other in the park them the parks are open so they can hang out on the parks, rode their bikes, have a picnic, lock a football about etc.

If they're younger you can take them to the park.
They can get exercise anywhere - garden, park, a run round the estate, a ride on their bike.

Agree it's shit re cinema, have you looked at other cinema?

If you're kids are too young for a 13, what about a picnic and nature trail?

The zoo's are open, safari parks etc.

Coffee shops and restaurants are half price eating Mon-Wed

SleepingStandingUp · 12/08/2020 10:33

And we spent whole summers in the 90s with no money to do anything but hang without turning into feral little shots beating each other up

LittleBearPad · 12/08/2020 10:33

The playgrounds are open and I think swimming pools have reopened so there are things that can be done.

I know it’s not a normal summer but there are things to do.

BlueSlice · 12/08/2020 10:33

Shame on the lot of them.

I get that it would be nice if there were more things to keep your DC occupied but you’re not owed these things. You’re acting like you were promised something and ‘they’ve’ let you down.

It would be a nice bonus if there were more to do but you’re not entitled to it and there’s no need to ‘shame’ anyone,

NoSquirrels · 12/08/2020 10:34

I don’t think the cinema is the hill to die on in this example, OP.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/08/2020 10:35

Hang on, if they can turn on each other in the park then the parks are open so they can hang out in the parks, rIde their bikes, have a picnic, kick a football about etc.

Brunilde · 12/08/2020 10:35

Not sure entertaining kids is top on the list of government priorities tbh

Mothermorph · 12/08/2020 10:36

I didnt know 13 films existed
misses point of thread

LittleBearPad · 12/08/2020 10:36

And you can do cinema at home if you’re thinking of Frozen, Trolls etc which are easily available.

Get popcorn, pick n mix etc and make a treat of it

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 12/08/2020 10:36

Why would you want to sit in the cinema with people potentially coughing around you?
Not like you can munch popcorn wearing a mask..

BarbaraofSeville · 12/08/2020 10:36

If they want to watch Frozen, they can just get a DVD or download at home surely? Or some places are doing outdoor cinema.

If you want to go out for play and exercise, take them to the beach, countryside, wildlife park, woods, National Trust etc etc.

I know the current situation is shit, but it is what it is and you just have to make the best of it.

FatalDistraction · 12/08/2020 10:37

No, I am not entitled to anything. However, most places do not care that our DC have been stuck in for months on end. They only care about profits. Staff at our local pool have said that they are not opening the pool because they don't want to pay lifeguards and cleaners whilst the government are paying them. Usually this massive pool has swim lessons, parties and bouncy castles on all summer. So, yes total shame on them for not giving a shit about our kids.

One of my friends towns has free outdoor screenings of various films, including trolls, toy story 4, secret life of pets etc.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/08/2020 10:37

Oh so who's responsibility do you think it is? Ops? Kids parents?? I mean they're beating each other up in the park because they're a bit bored. Someone has to be held responsible and I blame Boris and Dominic!! He should raise ops kids better
Thepilotlightsgoneout · 12/08/2020 10:37

It is hard to find things to do, I just feel like we’ve done everything that’s available and am just counting down the days til September.

There’s no-one to blame though, it is what it is. I don’t know who you’re angry at.

minnieok · 12/08/2020 10:38

Guessing you aren't in the uk as we don't have a 13 film classification. Why not go to the park, countryside, beach, desert, mountains (delete what's inappropriate for your location) picnics, swimming, hiking, cricket ... kids don't need organised activities, do what we did when we were small, let them use their imaginations in the garden

CatRamsey · 12/08/2020 10:38

Soft play is open again by me, but tbh it sounds so stressful with all the restrictions I will not be letting my friend know as she will immediately want me to take them all! Grin

LittleBearPad · 12/08/2020 10:38

But they may not be able to afford to reopen. It’s not a personal slight

MiddleClassProblem · 12/08/2020 10:39

@Mothermorph

Ditto. Assuming OP isn’t in UK because they don’t.

You can only show Frozen, Trolls etc if you have it in license hth

But they're a business, they aren't there to care about your kids. Maybe they think they won't make enough money with social distancing and general wariness to ears any paying everyone they'd need to pay. Maybe they, selfish dicks, care about their businesses
diplodocusinermine · 12/08/2020 10:39

What do you think children did before there was soft play, farm parks, paintball, etc etc?

FatalDistraction · 12/08/2020 10:40

Yes, UK.
Tenet is PG-13.

OP posts:
Bloodylush · 12/08/2020 10:40

That’s why the beaches are packed.

LittleBearPad · 12/08/2020 10:40

I wouldn’t pay to go to the cinema to watch Frozen etc when I can watch it on DVD/demand at home.

I doubt I’m unusual so the cinema wouldn’t make any money

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/08/2020 10:42

Life is nicer with cinemas, bowling alleys, soft play etc open but it is doable with playgrounds, swimming and the great outdoors.
