To sack my personal trainer

CourseTheyWere · 11/08/2020 18:01

I know this is a very first world problem and I apologise in advance if I come across as entitled and privileged.

I hired a personal trainer last year and had really good results. Then lockdown happened. I continued to pay him as the gym was closed. I asked him to provide me with some workouts I could do at home. This was sporadic - I think I’ve had three since March.

The gym has now opened but I haven’t yet returned, as I’m not 100% comfortable with being in a confined space at the minute.

I was happy to help him out when the gym was closed and most people stopped paying but I just don’t think I’m getting value for money now. I won’t be in the gym for a while yet and he hasn’t replied to my last text.

WIBU to cancel my membership? It’s a really good gym and I would like to rejoin in the longer term so don’t want to make it awkward.

If you were paying in lockdown he should have been training you live online, not sending you some crappy programme you probably could have got for free off the internet. And not replying to texts? Taking the piss.

cringeworthit · 11/08/2020 18:03

Do you mean you are paying him privately, as well as gym membership?

PurpleDaisies · 11/08/2020 18:04

Aren’t you paying per workout?

I’d meet in a park or garden instead of the gym.

You don’t have to continue if you don’t want to though.

caringcarer · 11/08/2020 18:05

You could keep membership of gym but no longer require services of PT. It is hard to.dtop gym membership unless contract comes to an end. I moved over 70 miles away and had to send proof of my new address with new council tax bill and give 3 months notice before I could cancel 18 month rolling contract.

CourseTheyWere · 11/08/2020 18:05

It’s just a small gym where I pay him for PT. Theres no membership as such although you can pay for group classes.

CourseTheyWere · 11/08/2020 18:06

It’s £149 per month for five sessions.

I really like the group classes but wonder if it would be awkward if I stopped paying for pt when I returned

Flackattack · 11/08/2020 18:07

What did he send you in the interim? Surely he should roll these sessions over???

CourseTheyWere · 11/08/2020 18:09

So first of all I asked him for a video workout. He sent one which was actually pretty shocking. Then he sent me some programmes to do. Now he appears to have lost interest entirely!

CourseTheyWere · 11/08/2020 18:09

He has said that he will try to fit in as many sessions as possible but to be honest I’m never going to catch up.

Sack him now you are being ripped off! £149 per month and all you’ve received is 3 workouts since March. No wonder he’s not replying to your last text - he knows he’s onto a good thing getting paid for doing nothing. You’d honestly be better off cancelling this and finding someone good online workouts via YouTube.

Mydarlingsleepthief · 11/08/2020 18:12

My PT did zoom classes 4 times a week through lockdown, definitely sack him!

cringeworthit · 11/08/2020 18:12

Tell him sorry, you are having to drastically reduce your outgoings due to Covid, so you are cancelling your payments for the time being.

He's being a bit of a cheeky git to be honest.

Palavah · 11/08/2020 18:17
  1. you can sack a personal trainer any time you like if it's not working for you
  2. he's a CF
chillied · 11/08/2020 18:21

How much! And for nothing? Stop paying him for sure.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 11/08/2020 18:46

What was shocking about the video he sent?

He is taking the mick! How many sessions has he offered and how many have you paid for? He could even have been training you in the park keeping two metres apart. Since June I think. He could have zoomed. No problem. I would actually complain to the gym about this, particularly his refusal to reply whilst continuing to take your money. There are other personal trainers.

CourseTheyWere · 11/08/2020 18:47

It was shocking because he kept getting interrupted and stopping the video and when he picked it back up it made no sense!!

OP posts:
Ohtherewearethen · 11/08/2020 18:53

Looks like he's stopped caring so I don't see why you should now. He's the one who has taken the mick not you. He should be lucky you're not complaining about him not just cancelling his dire services

fruitpastille · 11/08/2020 18:58

I'm paying £50 a month for up to 13 live zoom classes and I can choose days/ times that are convenient to me. Another gym locally does less zoom classes but you don't even need to be a member to access them. Ok that's group training but even so £149 is extortionate!

GenevaL · 11/08/2020 19:07

He should be putting in an hour of effort for every hour you pay. Ditch him.

rookiemere · 11/08/2020 19:15

Good grief - that's a lot of money for nothing. During lockdown I would have expected personal zoom classes and then latterly 121s in the parj.

monkeyonthetable · 11/08/2020 19:16

My PT has been seeing me regularly (since lockdown eased). I bought kit so she didn't have to provide anything and we socially distance in the garden or in a cleared room with windows wide open. He has no excuse for taking your money and not providing you with a service.

Janaih · 11/08/2020 19:19

Sounds like he saw you coming tbh.

Joe wicks on youtube has some brilliant home workouts.

popcornlover · 11/08/2020 19:19

What, so you’ve paid him around £750 for nowt?

Flackattack · 11/08/2020 19:29

I’d ask for my money back as you haven’t received the service! Follow up with the gym as they shouldn’t have anyone working in the gym whether he is self employed or otherwise treating clients like that
