Pellet/air guns

I live near a family where the child under 16 has some kind of toy/weapon that they fire at items in their garden, sometimes for hours and hours. The noise ricochets across the gardens which are in a row, and surrounded by trees so it makes a very loud bang noise. If the large trees were not there, the noise would probably not travel like it does

This makes my dog bark like crazy and you will jump out of your skin if you sit outside. I did think it was fire crackers but it’s a gun.

I have girl children so this is not a hobby I have come across as a parent. I have contacted environmental health as I don’t know if IABU - is this acceptable as a garden hobby?

I am trying to WFH, I’m NHS and it’s very hot so perhaps I am BU to find this so bloody irritating?

Girls can enjoy target shooting too. But there is no excuse for using an air rifle in a built up area without a silencer (which depending on what they are using, I can't imagine it would be too difficult to get). We live in a very rural area and dh does some shooting (with actual rifles) and still always uses a silencer. It's not nice to scare or annoy your neighbours. Could you knock on the door and suggest this? That said, it's not particularly safe to be shooting in your small garden unless you have good control and know what is behind what you're shooting at. If you think it's dangerous, you could report to the local firearms officer, though it's hard to know what they would do about kids and an air rifle.

It's legal but they should be taking precautions. Otherwise it's just garden noise

If it's a springer then a silencer might not make much difference also

Girls can shoot too. What a bizarre comment. Speak to your neighbour and train your dog. You could also go back into the office, there's bound to be air conditioning there. What difference does it make if you're NHS?

Menora · 11/08/2020 14:28

Ok yes girls can too, the point was my girls did not, so I have zero experience or knowledge about anything to do with this kind of thing at all. I am not even sure about the legalities

Whatever it is, it makes a really loud banging snap kind of noise. I can’t really see it very well.

Please give me more information as to how to train a dog not to be scared and react to loud bangs (thunder and guns) I would love to know this for sure. I call him in, close doors and windows and then we all sit inside so that I do not disturb everyone else. I could try talking to him a lot more about how not to be afraid though? Hmm

I am NHS and trying to have important/vital virtual meetings. No I don’t have air con at work and due to social distancing rules and trying to protect everyone, I am home sometimes to make space for others to use the office who need to be there more than I do or cannot work from home.

I am not choosing to be at home, I have been placed here and go to the office when I can or there is space.

Any more stupid questions?

Loud bangs or an air rifle? Perfectly legal as long as used in accordance with the law. Speak to your neighbour instead of reporting them, step up and be the grown up before secretly reporting. What about working for the NHS makes this worse for you? Curious as to why it's relevant?

This morning I was trying to discuss winter planning with a project team - I’m sure we all want to stay safe and healthy this winter. The NHS will be under huge pressure, if you were not aware we are in a pandemic and flu season is coming sooner than we think. I don’t think I am more important than anyone else working from home but this was a really important meeting and we don’t have much time left to get started. I can supply further info if you require

Said child was banging away with the whatever it is weapon, my (untrained clearly) scared dog was upset and I had to stop immediately and sort all of it out. It’s embarrassing and irritating.

I can go and knock but I don’t know if an U16 with a pellet gun in the garden is acceptable or not, I asked for opinions. I have yours so thanks
