NC for this.

My grandma was a lovely lady and I relishes going to stay with her in the school holidays! She just happened to have a rather booming voice with a very strong West Country accent.

We were in a local cafe and she was jovially saying how nice the food was. 10 year old me - completely without thinking and probably trying to make a joke - said:
"Grandma, do you realise just how loud you are sometimes?".

Her face instantly fell and she went really quiet. My mum told me off and I must have apologised, although I don't remember. She died in 2006 and I still can't get her crestfallen face out of my head to this day. She didn't deserve it, and I still kick myself.

Yes, many times.

I know what I said isn't that nasty in the grand scheme of things, but it's really stuck with me and was totally out of character, even at 10 years old. I think it's because I know if someone said that to me I would be really self conscious for a long time!

Yes.

Deeply regret something I said when I was roughly 8 - completely understandable and I've no idea if it registered with the adult in question but it haunts me that I said it.

@embarrassingadmissions It's strange how we feel so much remorse for something we said before we were anywhere near mature, but I guess it served a purpose to be a lot more careful with our words in future! I definitely learnt my lesson.

As a young child, I vividly remembering telling my grandma that her nose looked like a strawberry - which it did - and I LOVED strawberries so I didn't think it was rude.

She was NOT happy and I remember her look today more than 30 years later.

Yes. Was in my early teens, out in town with my best friend. I believe we'd had a little bit to drink. Blush Friend wanted to go visit my step grandma at the back of town. She lived in a tower block (Top floor) with intercom. Anyway, we get there and I'm buzzing the intercom and we get no answer. For some unknown reason, and it wasn't even true, I started saying how much I didn't like her and was only in it for the inheritance money! Shock We walked away and as we did I heard my name called. Yes, it was step grandma. We had a very awkward conversation then we left. That's about one of the last times I saw her. I've no idea why I said it, it wasn't even true!

Sorry, didn't explain that very well. Step grandma heard me over the intercom.

I'm wondering how a nose can look like a strawberry! 🍓👀

I imagine it was large, squishy, slightly red in colour with large open pores.
Fantasisa · 13/08/2020 10:31

@Wheresthebiffer2 Exactly. It was exactly like you describe and bright red.
