To want to know how to improve my frown lines?!

I’m getting really conscious of my “11” lines in between my eyebrows. I’m 33 and have always looked a lot younger than I am but think these are starting to stop that. I have booked an eye test as I’m meant to wear glasses for activities that require concentration and I haven’t been for a few years so am squinting a lot without realising.

Has anyone got any good tips/products apart from Botox?

Why not Botox? It works very well.

Idontbelieveit12 · 10/08/2020 20:37

I can’t afford it unfortunately

I had filler to plump my 11 lines. Best £200 I ever spent. I also had filler and Botox in my forehead and I hated that

Still1nLove · 10/08/2020 20:39

I had the filler in April 2019 and my 11 lines still haven’t come back

The Ordinary retinol works well for me. I put it on at night and forehead is noticeably better in the morning.

JeNeComprendsPas · 10/08/2020 20:45

Depending on your budget you could buy a dermaroller /micro needling and a decent hyaluronic acid serum (haven't tried mine yet but I've got a serum on order from The Ordinary that was about £15 and a dermaroller from Amazon - I'm going to do my hands and neck/chest)
There are completely non-invasive products like Frownies which act as a splint so you can't frown while wearing them but they're obviously limited as to when you could use them and whether they'd help at all is another matter...

feelingsicknow · 10/08/2020 20:46

If you're only concerned with one area then please do research into cost of Botox vs other creams/potions etc. Given it will last between 6-8 months usually, divide the cost and see whether it would actually be more economical than buying other stuff. Honestly, there is nothing else I've found guaranteed to make me look less tired/haggard. It really does improve things.

Brieminewine · 10/08/2020 20:48

Rather than waste ££ on creams and rollers that won’t work just save up and get the Botox. There’s no lotion or potion that can do the same.

Ladylimpet · 10/08/2020 20:56

Start wearing sunglasses. And spf rcream always.
I remember seeing my sister after ages (we'd fallen out and I'd moved abroad).
She's a bit younger than me, and I remember thinking, bloody hell!! Those frown lines.
I think she mentioned them and said she never wore sunglasses. At all. I wear mine a lot (they are prescription too). I wear mine at the merest hint of a bit of sun. I was aware I did squint a lot. I've hardly got lines.
I'm sure it's not a cure all, but I'm positive it helps!

Mummadeeze · 10/08/2020 20:59

I have this problem too. Feel a bit apprehensive about Botox. And about spending that much on my appearance. Have just been putting up with it, but am now following with interest.

Spinakker · 10/08/2020 21:03

Agree with wearing sunglasses and spf when you can

GeminiMoon · 10/08/2020 21:13

Face yoga - basically smoothing the lines out with your knuckles in the case of 11 lines - might have a temporary positive effect. Google the method because I haven’t explained it very well. The idea with face yoga is that you do it very regularly to sustain the effect.

Idontbelieveit12 · 10/08/2020 21:26

Thank you everyone. I definitely need to wear sunglasses and sun cream more. I really don’t want to start with Botox, I cannot afford to keep up with it. I’ve been looking at facial smoothie patches that you wear overnight on amazon.

@Idontbelieveit12, I believe you are referring to Frownies and they are excellent. I wore them for years, but switched to Botox at 40 for ease.

ParcelFarce · 10/08/2020 21:50

Sunglasses, SPF50 every day, more water, facial yoga...

Don’t blame you in the slightest for wanting to avoid Botox. It’s very normalised on here but I personally wouldn’t touch it (both for health and political/personal reasons!)

MrsGoggings85 · 10/08/2020 21:54

Nothing that’ll workout botox I'm afraid.....don’t waste your money on creams.

You can slow it down by wearing SPF50 every day, even in winter and try to keep your facial muscles relaxed when you’re not talking to anyone - this is hard though.

GoddamnGodBless · 10/08/2020 22:06

Tretinoin, SPF50 and Botox. The ultimate Triumvirate in my opinion.

Itwillbelovelywhenitsdone · 10/08/2020 23:19

I suffer from them too! For the last few months it has been Operation Begone-Foul-Frownlines in my house!

I find the Frownies are good and seem to soften the lines. Took a couple of months for this to be noticeable.
I’ve combined it with a hyralonic acid serum applied to damp skin, retinol, a darn good moisturiser and also an acid mask a couple of times a week. Vit C and sun lotion in the am instead of the retinol.

It’s a bit of a faff tbh but my whole face looks better and I think a bit younger over all. The frown lines are less noticeable, although still there.

blagaaw99 · 11/08/2020 07:16

Watching to see learn!

SomewhereInbetween1 · 11/08/2020 08:28

Without anything invasive such as Botox, you cannot undo already established lines with retinol or similar, you can only have them appear smoother and slow down their progression. Argireline solution may be worth considering for targeting your forehead, and salicylic acid is great for under eyes

ShebaShimmyShake · 11/08/2020 09:20

Some places let you pay for Botox in instalments. It may be no dearer, perhaps even cheaper, than buying a bottle of expensive lotion every month.

There's something in these firming/anti wrinkle things that dries my skin and gives it red marks. I've no idea what.
