Heated drying rack. Yes or no?

71 replies

Yellownotblue · 09/08/2020 23:15

Do I need a heated drying rack?

Do you use yours, are you happy with it, any particular brand or make you recommend? Or is it a waste of money?

Family of 4.

YABU : you should get a heated drying rack
YANBU: why bother. Dry on normal rack or use dryer.

TIA

I have one and it was great last winter BUT my electricity bills went through the roof. Literally tripled vs the winter before. I’m getting a smart meter installed soon so will be interested to see. I know it says 6p an hour but that’s still £1.44 a day. So depending on how much washing you do up to £44 a month if left on constantly. And we are a jumper on instead of heating on household so it was a big shock

yes yes yes
Have the Lakeland one and its great.
Cover mine with a bath sheet and works great

NatalieLollipop · 10/08/2020 17:18

I've got the Lakeland one and definitely would not be without it in the winter.

PoloNeckKnickers · 10/08/2020 17:22

I live in a flat and have a dehumidifier with a setting for drying clothes which works really quickly. With a heated rack, don't you have to keep miving the clothes so they come into contact with the heated rail?

fitbciz1 · 10/08/2020 17:34

Normal rack plus dehumidifier - the moisture needs to go somewhere. Then I use the water in the iron, which means irons don't die with quite such alarming frequency as they used to.

PotteryLady · 10/08/2020 17:51

Get one - love mine from Lakeland. Wouldn't be without it x

SuperCaliFragalistic · 10/08/2020 23:07

I drape things over the rails and layer stuff lying down flat on top of the draped items. Large sheet over the top. Done.

The best £40 I have ever spent in argos, always telling my friends to get one. Perfect for winter if you don't like /want a tumble dryer.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 10/08/2020 23:48

@Sexykitten2005

That's strange. Mine is meant to be like a penny an hour to run.

Definitely cheaper than a tumble or putting them on all the radiators in warm weather!

Maverickallthetime · 11/08/2020 00:02

Our tumble dryer has just broken so I'm wondering what to replace it with. The only thing is I miss having soft towels, mine are so crispy drying on the line- they were the only thing I would always dry in it, everything else goes on the washing line or airer weather dependent!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 11/08/2020 00:11

@Maverickallthetime

Towels dont go crispy on a heated maiden like they do on a normal maiden Smile just dont overcrowd it and they will dry nice, just not as fluffy as in a tumble.

Im a freak, i love my towels scratchy and crispy haha feels like they dry me better and just feels like your having a good scrub all over with it!

Angelina82 · 11/08/2020 00:55

Following because I have one but have never used it as yet.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 11/08/2020 01:44

I use the dehumidfier water in other gadgets too! Floor washer, mopping gadget, window robot, steam cleaner.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 11/08/2020 04:04

Get one with a cover to keep the heat in.

I have a dehumidifier as well and have never regretted either purchase.

PoloNeckKnickers · 11/08/2020 07:28

I also love having a good rub down with a scratchy towel! 😃

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 11/08/2020 14:50

@PoloNeckKnickers

It's so satisfying isnt it haha! Makes me feel like a moose scratching against a fence or something 😂

Im sure in a previous life i was a horse 😂

Not with a cover on.
elfin79 · 11/08/2020 16:29

I bought a Lakeland one and thought it was rubbish. It took about the same length of time to dry on the heated dryer as it did for the clothes to just air dry on our IKEA clothes horse. Sent it back I'm afraid, cover and all.

KatherineParr4 · 11/08/2020 16:33

I found the same.

Bellieberg · 11/08/2020 16:33

I love our John Lewis one. Cheaper than Lakeland and has little rungs at the bottom for wet shoes / trainers which has been invaluable for my DC in the winter with one sports fixture after another.

elliejjtiny · 11/08/2020 17:06

I love my lakeland one
